If you asked a group of say 50 people who they thought videogames were aimed towards, you'd probably get the majority of them saying 'teenage males'. While this may have technically been true in the past, in the modern world its no longer anywhere near as true as it used to be, as the market has expanded beyond this audience and more and more females and other social groups are now beginning to experience the delights of videogames. With this is mind about new demographics, I'm looking in this blog at the representation of women in videogames and how (more often than not) they are presented mainly as an object of titillation for the male gamer's enjoyment, presented with overly large proportions and a great emphasis on impractical and skimpy outfits.
