Philip Oliver of CodeMasters and Blitz Games Studios sits down to talk about his time developing for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Working on the infamous Dizzy series spanning every system ever released, he focuses on the NES.

How did the Dizzy games fair over in the US when compared to the UK market?

Dizzy was a bigger hit in the UK, largely due to the platforms it was on. When Dizzy was released in the US it was only on NES and Mario and other games were very well established. Also this was Codemasters first outing in America and so they needed to build their business from scratch. That said, because the US is at least a five times bigger market than the UK and the games were sold at equivalent of £30 – we probably made the most money from the US sales!
