One of the oddest mods I have seen, a Game Boy that is hooked up to nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help sedate a patient going under for dental work.

I haven't had a chance to mention it on-site yet, but April marks the 20th anniversary of the original portable console, the Nintendo Game Boy. A lot of sites are celebrating this anniversary in different ways, but this list of Game Boy Oddities is about the most memorable I've seen yet. It rattles off thirteen of the weirdest Game Boy peripherals ever and oh boy were there some Game Boy peripherals weirder than anything you can imagine.

I'm choosing to highlight the best of the lot, which pretty much blows my mind: the PediSedate, a surreal peripheral marketed to dentists and other medical professionals that helps tense kids relax by letting them play a Game Boy attached to the hideous purple gimp mask you see above. The longer you play, the more nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas) the headgear pipes into your nose to sedate you.

Now, presumably the doctor or nurse administering the laughing gas comes by at some point to take the Game Boy and your horrible doom hat away. Otherwise I just imagine a lot of kids passing out and a lot of dropped Game Boys. Of course, if you click forward to see the amazing Gulf War bomb raid survivor Game Boy, you'll realize the Game Boy could probably handle any number of drops in style.

That's completely superfluous man, why does the gameboy even need to be connected to that? Just give the kid a gameboy while they're being anaesthetised however they normally do it. And you'll only get about 2 minutes worth of gameplay out of it before you go to mars anyway man. No, no. worthless piece of useless crap in my professional opinion. As a dentist and as a gameboy manufacturer. And also as Jesus.
