THQ has announced that they are delaying Saints Row 2 because of product quality and marketing considerations, a senior executive of THQ said. This means that Saints Row 2 will be released in THQ's fiscal third quarter instead of their second, but it will not effect THQ's financial outlook for the fiscal 2009 year said Bob Aniello, who is the senior vice president of worldwide marketing for THQ.

THQ Inc is delaying the release of its "Saints Row 2" video game by two months due to product quality and marketing considerations, a senior executive said on Wednesday.

The delay to Oct. 14 from Aug. 26 means the game will be released in THQ's fiscal third quarter instead of the second quarter, but will not affect the company's financial outlook for its 2009 fiscal year, Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, told Reuters.

Worst news of 2008 for me, this was a contender for game of the year in my books and its a shame gamers have to wait longer to play it.

This might as well read "we played GTA 4 and noticed some features we would like to adopt or better, so hang on guys..." lol

Just for the record, I'm not criticizing the game, I am looking forward to it. But my cynical side feels that they saw GTA and then realised whatever they had for SR2 wasn't good enough, so pushed it back.

Or my even more cynical side feels that they might not have wanted SR2 to go head to head with GTA's DLC.

Either way, I hope this means the game will be even better.

I think it is more to do with they just wanted to add more, the game itself is going to be shitloads more fun the GTA IV thats a given, GTA IV is dull and boring once the missions are over i just think they may has noticed the enterable hospitals and added that to Saints Row 2, they may add the same to police stations...

I can see them maybe taking the options idea, i mean custom characters means they can do lots with the story if they wanted... I think they are taking a game that may have already been more fun than GTA IV and they are now listening to all the haters of the new GTA and adding in what they wanted to see.

I honestly don't care that it's been delayed. There are so many other great titles coming out this year anyways. But yeah, I'm pretty sure the delay is to add more to the game to try and win over GTA IV, but no matter what extra stuff they add, it unfortunately will not beat the sales of IV, not even close.

Sales do not mean a good game, i undoubtedly will get thumbed down for this as people love to do that when someone speaks out about a game that is adored by millions, GTA IV sold lots but its not the best game ever made not by a long shot, they got rid of the fun factor, Saints Row 2 has everything Rockstar foolishly left out of GTA IV... Saints Row 2 has the potential to be the much better game, come on then you pathetic GTA fanboys thumb me down...

GTA4 was getter than any GTA game imo. All the unnecessary side quests was boring and dull. This one is better than SA in my eyes. Besides R* could in fact bring in DLC to make GTA4 fun like the others. That could be a PS3 exclusive deal.

SR2 won't be match GTA4, imo, its going to be a good game just not match the greatness.
I wouldn't be surprised if the delay was caused from the PS3.

Either way if SF2 turns out like SA im going to hate it, cause besides the story and a few things, getting 100% was tedious and boring.

I dunno man, not to say GTA4 still isn't better but, honestly Saint's Row still beats GTA in some ways. One thing definitely to point out - The aiming system in Saints Row is a hell of a lot better. GTA4's aiming is probably the one shitty part of the game.

GTA4 got better in where it failed in past GTAs but stripped down a lot of what was there and made GTA fun.

Saints Row was a fantastic game. If it didn't have such a tacky storyline and had more interesting charecters, it would have actually beaten all GTAs imo.

I just didn't like the boring unnecessary stuff to do in SA. It made me getting 100% that much harder and put me off the game. Im at 80%, beaten the story, and I don't feel like playing that game again now that GTA4 out. I love the aiming system. But hey im not saying SF2 isn't going to be fun, but I just like GTA4 right now. Even to SR1. But its a matter of taste I suppose. I can see the other side however.
