Games We Love but Wish We Could Love Playing
8 hours 32 mins ago
As you may have heard, Konami have placed limitations on what reviewers can and can't talk about regarding Metal Gear Solid 4. (According to Kotaku, the length of cutscenes and installation size aren't the only things that reviewers are forbidden to discuss. Apparently there is a rather long list of 'forbidden topics').
With these limitations in place, EGM magazine has refused review MGS4, claiming that the limitations will prevent them from providing a truthful opinion on the game.
However EGM does plan to write an unedited truthful review once the game is released.
Konami are imposing restrictions on what publications can and cannot talk about when reviewing Metal Gear Solid 4. No mention of 90-minute cutscenes please, and while you're at it, no talky-talky about install sizes either, K? IGN are cool with that. EGM, refreshingly, are not. Due to "limitations Konami wanted to impose on our comments", the editorial team decided to refrain from giving the game a score, and in lieu of a "review" posted a lengthy roundtable discussion about the game instead. It's hardly a gloved fist on an Olympic dias, but it is nice seeing somebody do something about such an...unsavoury practice.

That

Lame
pretty *bleep*ing gay.
It's a pretty big thing for any reviewer to refuse to review one of the PS3's biggest games before it's release. They're forfeiting alot of sales of their mag to keep their morals - It's nice to see that some companies still have them, and aren't willing to bullshit their love for a game just for a bit of money.
Besides who cares or buys their magazine anyway?
It's only natural that reviewers want to list negatives as well as positives in their reviews. After all, that's what reviews are for. But judging by Konami's list of restrictions, there are alot of things that can't be spoken about, seemingly because they might put the game in a bad light. Just look at GamesRadar's review - They had to apologize for creating such a short review because they were forbidden from discussing so many things. It's ridiculous.
