It seems that an upcoming update may have the ability for "the Playstation 3 to playback 3D movies using the TDVCodec and Blu-ray discs". The current level of technology currently allows this to be done on a PC and it is hoped that it can soon be done on a PS3 with the help of some software.

It seems that we may very well be seeing 3D Movies on Blu-rays very soon...

The objective (and what we are talking to major studios) is to encode their existing and new 3D stereoscopic content with our TDVCodec and have the movies available in every-shop everywhere in the world since one single Blu-ray disc encoded with our format has the 2D and the 3D version and can be played back in 2D over existing 2D platforms and in 3D where the platform is available as shown in steps 4 and 5 (PC or PS3 with our firmware update and a Samsung / Mitsibishi / Kerner / TDVisor / Hundai monitor is connected)

Sounds good. Will you need glases to make it proper 3D?

I would assume we'd need special 3D glasses. I would imagine they'd be the Tinted Black/grey and Clear ones, instead of the red and green, or red and blue ones.

I do believe the Black + clear = better colour range, in 3D movies.

Hmmm, might pick up a blu-ray that uses this (providing I actually am interested in the 3D movie), just to see how this works...

I would hope that, considering the size of blu-ray disks, that they'd offer a 2D option....Well, maybe with 50GB disks, anyhow....

This would be interesting, but I can't think of many 3D movies I'd want to watch
