RE5 Producer: Playstation 3 Sixaxis Controller 'Not Sensitive Enough'

Krunal | June 03, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
With Resident Evil 5 coming along, the Producer, Jun Takeuchi has gone to state how the Sixaxis controller is not a viable option for aiming in Resident Evil 5... however it should be noted that the comment is in response to a question asking if it would be possible to use the PS3 controller in a similar fashion to how the WiiMote was used in RE4: Wii Edition.

However the sensitivity issues for something like that aside, Takeuchi went on to express his fondness for the system calling it "great" and mentions how the developers have gotten use to developing for console.

I agree to be honest. I mean, SIXAXIS could have been awesome if it was done properly. Most of the games that it's been in, have been better with out it. Although, I don't think it's not sensitive enough, just turn it on on Motorstorm. I'ld much rather have, rumble at release and SIXAXIS later, if it had been improved.

Better without it? Its an option. Its like free samples at the mall.

Option? The thing is that its not a free sample and you can't change that fact without going out and buying a whole new controller.

What The sixaxis feature is optional, as opposed to Wii games being built around the motion control. You can't say games are better off without it when you can just turn it off. I don't know what you're gettin at.

Well SOME wii games its optional, but the majority is manditory, and the only some PS3 games have mandatory sixaxis, Lair, Rathcet and Clank and Folklore is all I can think of.

Out of the PS3 games I've played the only one to use it well was Heavenly Sword.

Shame the rest of the gameplay was pretty average.

I disagree with you on that, Heavenly Sword sword was epic on all grounds. Definitely a a underrated game which should be 9.5, if not a 10 in some aspects.

I do agree however that I used the Sixaxis for it more than most games.

@Redneonfish thats not Sony's fault, its the developers being too lazy to actually make Sixaxis great. Examples would be Heavenly Sword and Warhawk in I recall.

No. When you were directing the arrow's with Kai it was awesome. Everything else was good for the first 2 hours and boring for the remaining 4.

The question is stupid to begin with. RE4 Wii uses the IR functionality of the Wiimote, not the accelerometer technology used in both the Wiimote and 6-axis. It's comparing apples and oranges. Way to go, unnamed European Journalist.

The sixaxis wasn't meant for aiming in the first place.

I hope they figure something out soon. Otherwise there will be very irate gamers.
