It shouldn't come as a surprise or shock to learn that the Playstation 3 loves Power... the Electrical kind that is, however you may be shocked to learn that the Playstation 3 uses five times as much energy as a refrigerator, which means those gamers that leave their Playstation 3 on for Folding@Home are looking at spending around $250 a year on extra electricity that they could have saved.
However don't think it's only the Playstation, the XBOX360 is no stranger to power either, and whilst not using as much as the PS3 (31.74kWh) the XBOX360 is a close second using 23.57kWh. The Wii on the other hand... is certainly last in the list of power sucking consoles, not even reaching 3kWh.
The Playstation 3 loves power... and there's the proof...
Were all aware that the PlayStation 3 is an energy hog, but this is ridiculous: According to Australian consumer agency Choice the PS3 devours five times as much energy as a refrigerator.

Thats because its basicly a gameboy in a new box with wii printed on it.
Money well spent. =D
most ps3 users use their console only a couple hours a day, compared to computers being left on for hours (maybe even days) at a time
if people are worried by using their console too much, they may want to watch their PC use
laptops arent usually that bad, they run on battery power
even when using AVplugs, its still charging the battery
i use a laptop aswell krunal
Seriously though, it's no wonder tree-huggers hate the consoles, hopefully this'll make people remember to unplug the bastards instead of leaving them on standby as well. Good grief, they're like the Vergils of the electronics world
More Power
And still, 1.9 watts left on over all the time you're not playing the console for however long you have the thing adds up, I mean can anyone honestly say they're that lazy that they can run their finger over the stand-by button, but can't be bothered to flick a little swith at the back?
Edit: 1.9 watts. There's a great breakdown of power usage here:

Oh and the refrigerator is a bad comparison, as far as products go that doesn't use all that much power
These days with all the technology that goes into refrigerators, you'd be surprised how much power they use.
