With the recent news surrounding Metal Gear Solid 4 about Konami restricting reviewers on what they can reveal in their reviews, it seems to have come to light that not all of the reviewers had any restrictions put on them.

Editors of Game Informer and Playstation: The Official Magazine were two who were not asked to keep quiet about any bit of the game that they played. Could the review by PTOM reveal exactly what was asked of the others to be kept quiet?

Might mean that the ones that did not have any restrictions placed on them are the ones that are less likely to actually bring to light the negative points of the game.

It doesn't surprise me that OPM's review didn't have restrictions. They went all-out with spoilers - Some of them I reeeeally didn't want to find out. >_>

Haha, I've tryed so hard to keep myself in the dark and not be hyped about MGS4. I don't even know what the gameplay is like or what characters are appearing.

I hope its worth it x_X

If you ask me, it's all fishy to me. Why is Konami going to such lengths to keep the game under wraps, and yet at the same time having it advertised like crazy? Surely they have nothing bad to hide, if anything, it should be something crazy good.

Tbh, Konami have made the game look worse with all this covering up. It gives of the impression that there are some big negatives in MGS4 that they want to hide. While that might end up being untrue, it certainly doesn't seem that way at the moment.

If they hadn't put so many restrictions on reviews, more positives about the game would currently be talked about.
But all people can talk about now is whether Konami are hiding something or whether positive reviews are bullshitting.

I think its the fact they don't want people to read these reviews and be turned away from them or allow themselves to be spoon fed the BS the Pro Reviews normally are.

GTA4 reviews are a perfect example, everyone believed the crazy goodness of the game only to be disappointed in the end.

If anything this makes the game that much sweeter imo.

But people are going to turn away from the game anyway. For example, some people might REALLY hate long cutsenes. If a review warns them of that then they probably won't buy the game and will look for something that better suits their interests. But if reviews can't warn them of these things, then they'll buy the game, find out it has things they don't like, and end up returning it to the store.

Konami aren't doing any favors here. They're basically restricting reviewers from being as truthful as possible. And in doing so, are possibly turning away potential MGS4 buyers while attracting the attention of people who might not like the certain negatives that aren't being reported on.

I don't know what your vendetta against pro-reviews is, because the majority of the time they are relatively accurate. People only read them for a general guideline on what a game is like anyway.
