If you haven't heard, Tomonobu Itagaki quit Tecmo last night because they were not paying him his bonuses. Microsoft has now responded to the whole situation: "Tomonobu Itagaki has decided to leave TECMO and Team NINJA to pursue other opportunities. We thank Tomonobu Itagaki for the many years he has supported Xbox as he has contributed immensely to the success of the videogame industry as a whole."

When Tomonobu Itagaki dropped a bombshell late last night telling us through a translator that he was not only leaving Team Ninja but suing his former employer, it was pretty stunning.

Temco later declined to comment saying that they were aware of his statement but unwilling to say more. Now Microsoft is chiming in, responding to our request for comment, thanking Itagaki for his years of Xbox support.

"Tomonobu Itagaki has decided to leave TECMO and Team NINJA to pursue other opportunities. We thank Tomonobu Itagaki for the many years he has supported Xbox as he has contributed immensely to the success of the videogame industry as a whole."

You do realize that deep down MS is pissed they lost a great developer.

Im disappointed with Itagaki, he didn't really take big opportunities when it arose.

NG2 is the last game I'll ever get that was made by him.

      What craziness are you talking?

Itagaki was developing for Tecmo, who was on good terms with Microsoft. He wasn't developing for Microsoft! And since Itagaki prefers the 360 console (ever since his move to Xbox), he'll likely make games for it again.

Microsoft had to say thank you to this man. One of the few Japanese developers who stuck by this console that has little Japanese fanbase.
