As proven by announcements by the likes of EA, THQ and Ubisoft as of late, the Wii Balance Board has been welcomed by some of the biggest game developers in the world, but is the weight-sensitive accessory all it's cracked up to be, both in terms of its uses and potential lifespan?

If the reception to Wii Fit and the interest from many a third party developer were anything to go by, then the future of the Wii Balance Board looks like being a secure one, but should we really be getting overly giddy about what has been touted in many circles as a revolution in game control, or is the Balance Board limited to offering only a little more than is possible at any old videogaming arcade, a limited, gimmicky piece of kit?
