its all how you look at it, I think the writer was speaking more from expectation as at the time GTA was a new genre as GTA IV is a rehash. Granted the graphics, multiplayer, and gameplay are better now, but in the whole scheme of things, you come away somewhat disappointed when you just play the single player

It's amazing to see how far the series has come. The difference between the GTA and GTA IV screens is ... wow.
I bet we all weren't expacting the GTA series to end up looking the way it does now!

I didnt like the original, it didnt appeal to me, especiallly since you move your walking character like a car, that was annoying.

EDIT: People, stop thumbing others down for having an opinon. Read my *bleep*ing comment, I never said GTA1 was bad, just that I didnt like it. I shouldnt get thumbed down for that.

If GTA2 had some more advanced features, a case could definitely be made that it's better than IV.

Honestly? I think that piece is an example of a writer who takes himself WAY too seriously. That whole piece was a monolithic conundrum of an overindugled intellectual showoff. (Kind of like the previous sentence in this post lol)

Seriously, if you read that post, he goes on and on about how GTA has changed, abandoned its roots of mayhem and disorganized crome, and yet DOES NOT give a single example to make his point. he prattles on and on in what reads like a 17 year old wanna-be heavy metal guitarist who can't play songs but can run through scales like nobody's business. This guy makes NO salient point, brings no bonafide complaint to the table, does not, in fact, criticize ONE facet of gameplay with so much as a concrete example, and yet, he tries to tell us why every GTA game since GTA III is just off the mark somehow.

Man, I wish I had an ego that big that I could get a job writing for a big gaming site and get paid to say absolutely NOTHING with such flagrant self-indulgent verbiage.

I mean seriously, can anyone find ONE place where this guy even remotely supported his perspective? Forget whether you agree with him or not. The fact is, I am one of the people that does believe that GTA IV has lost its way. However, whether you agree with my reasons or not, at least I, and people who feel as I do, can furnish you with actual examples of gameplay to make my point. His article was like the high-IQ version of the n00b poster who waltzes into the forum and starts a thread saying, "Like OMG!! GTA Sucks! How can all you idiots like it? It is SO bad!!" And gives not one examploe of WHY he feels that way.

Well, that's my rant for the night.
