GGL Digital Games: game titles announced

AznLiquid | June 06, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
The GGL Digital Games event is set to coincide with the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and is fully supported by the Olympics.

However, the event organizers are being criticized for not including Starcraft, even though it came a close second to CoD4 in a user poll.
GGL is proud to announce the final games list for the 2008 Digital Games. The community has been asking for it for quite some time, so here it is!

Counter-Strike 1.6 5v5

Battle as Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists in fictional scenarios designed to test teamwork and aiming skills in one of the de-facto pro gaming titles of the last decade.

Starcraft is always used and while it is an adrenaline fueled watch in games tournaments, i would rather watch Counterstrike, less so anything else though. I could watch Counterstrike all day without even playing a single person, i love that game. Took up 2 years of my life would love to take part in GGL.

I don't understand why they would have DotA and not SC. I understand DotA is fun to play but as a spectator game, it's incredibly slow and boring to watch.

It's undeniable how big Starcraft is, even outside of Korea. GOM TV's Starcraft Invitational league attracted over 1 million unique IP hits.

The results of the poll can be found here: http://images2.ggl.com/china-games-chart.gif The numbers represent % of voters, who had the option to choose 2 games which is why it will add up to over 100%.

Starcraft drew in more votes than all the other RTS games combined, while DotA held even less than 10%.

SC is the biggest e-sport in the world, GGL is leaving out millions of spectators by excluding it. Counter-Strike is good, and it's smart that they went with 1.6 over Source but SC still had the largest amount of spectators.

Check out the comments at the source page. Almost every comment is asking why SC is missing from the list and giving solid reasons why it should be included.

I'm rather disappointed with that list, myself. As you said, there's no Starcraft. I also agree that watching DotA is boring. And why sports games? I don't think I've ever seen or heard of people professionally playing sports games.

Also, I think it would have been better to use CS:S over 1.6, but that's just me.

1.6 has a bigger competitive scene internationally. Source is really only big in the US and Canada.
