It's fair to say that the release of Wii Fit has divided many a game journalist and fitness expert, and even a few weeks after its release, condemnation of the exer-gaming product is still filtering through the mainstream press - this time from the Washington Post, who damn the game's release.

In an article written to encourage readers to continue to jog and run during the summer months despite the heat, The Washington Post's Jim Hage, reports Balance Board Blog, takes a dig at Wii Fit, suggesting that any outdoor exercise is better than a session of Nintendo's exer-gaming software, and even going as far to damn its recent release.

He's right though - Outdoors excericise is better and achieves more results than the Wii Fit.

But just how many people can drag their ass out of their house to go and exercise? I think Nintendo's main target market with the Wii Fit is the people who don't have the motivation/time/ability to go to the gym or just to step out for a jog. Or at least this should have been their intended audience, but they advertised it to the masses and I think that's why the Wii Fit's taking so much flack.

I personally think that if a person is too lazy to drag their ass out to excercise, then they'll probably be too lazy for the Wii Fit as well.

I think alot of the reason the Wii Fit is getting flack (besides the reason you mentioned) is that it is being marketed as a machine or game that will make a person fit. And when journalists and fitness experts realize that the Wii Fit won't make a person fit, they have a field day.

At the same time though, Wii Fit's perfect for people who live in awful areas- If I were to go outside for a job i'd probably be doing it next to a motorway

I completely forgot about this article. Anyways, yeah you raise a good point. Though I was going to say that location plays a role due to possible security concerns in some areas. But that isn't really a strong enough reason to go out and buy a $90 Wii Fit which might begin to collect dust after a couple of weeks.

You made good points GG and I have to agree with both of them. I think the issue of laziness is extremely important when it comes to this. I find it hard to motivate myself to exercise by myself, and I guess my inherent laziness kicks in. Yet, when I go to my trainer it's like I must go and make the most out of the time.
