Wow talk about a overload of information. Usually the developers deal out morsels as they see fit but in this case Treyarch have apparently ignored the rules. There's a lot to reveal but confirmed co-op, vehicles and squads in multiplayer, the Wii Zapper will be supported for its respective console, the first level begins on a Japanese sub and and the game has been titled Call of Duty: World at War.

The subs issue of this month’s gamesTM has revealed a wealth of information on the now-announced Call of Duty: World at War, the final name for Treyarch’s Call of Duty 5.

From VG247 reader evilashchris, reading from the UK mag: “Right, apparently it’s going to be grittier, as gritty as ANY game out there to quote. The enemy will be scarier and use new tactics.

“There will be co-op for the first time in a Call of Duty. Also there will be vehicles and squad-based elements to the multiplayer. Formats: PC, PS3, 360 and Wii. The Wii version is being worked on by a separate team within Treyarch. [The mag] reckons it’ll be a much closer comparison between the next-gen and Wii versions than any other Wii game on the market.

I'm sick of WWII. This game better make up for it in other areas.

I don't think I really want squad based elements..

It kind of slows down from the action I expect in a COD game.

"World at war" Set in the pacific theatre.

    What?

I don't want vehicles in a CoD game tbh, they'd have to change so much to get the balance right that it wouldn't really feel like CoD anymore.

    Co-op sounds alright though.

I agree. I don't want vehicles either. Adding vehicles is only because they want to please the public and keep up with other games. We all know that vehicles wouldn't work well in a COD game.

Aslong as the maps are big enought to hold them, they could work well.

But then it would turn into Battlefield, where you have to run a few miles just to find an enemy because the maps are too big and everyone took the tanks. And then you're likely to get shot by a heli or blasted by a tank. It's taken Battlefield years to get it right (which I still don't think it is - but I haven't played it much yet) so what chance do you think Treyarch have got?

Ugg, CoD4 was great not just because of fun gameplay and top notch controls, but because it wasnt in freaking WWII.

Eh, I think everyone really is just being negative about this game. You are just judging it without even playing it. Do I wish it was set in WWII? No. Do I want Treyarch to make this game instead of Infinity Ward? No. But I am going to go all emo over the game, bash it months before release and just totally shit all over it!?! No!

I don't think the game will be as good as COD 4, but I am really interested in the Co-Op play. I hope this goes for Offline as well. I like playing with my real friends. Not everybody is a no-life bum who sits in the dark playing multiplayer games all day.

PS: So since this game will be called "Call of Duty: World at War", does that mean Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty game will be called "Call of Duty 5?" I hope so.

I think it will just be like cod4 is called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I think they just missed the 5 out (I think)

Why the hell is everybody bashing this? Call of Duty 3 was hardly rubbish. I'd say it was wholly beyond the realms of averageness; it was very good. Treyarch are a quality developer.
    Quit your whining.

I liked the vehicles in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, but I do think they should be restricted to single player, I don't like the idea of having people roaming around in tanks online. I'm sure it will still be a quality game, and don't see why there is such negativity.

Ugh "another WWII shooter" how many damn times do we have to relive WWII? CoD4 exceeded expectations and did so well because it was not WWII.

I personally will not be buying CoD5 based on this fact. I don't care if it's Omaha Beach, I'm sick of WWII FPS, like TheBradman1andOnly said...bring on CoD6.

Co-op is a big plus. If its good, I might get it for 360.

The Wii version doesn't sound too bad either.

Co-op sounds cool, but if this is going back to WWII for the 4456897 times, it can stay on the shelves. War is ever present. War is going on as I'm typing this. Why is WWII so driven into the ground? Why is it so hard to make a war based FPS in present time? I'm not even just talking about COD. The market is littered with WWII! Can't these people at least come somewhat closer to the present and make a Baghdad shooter? Desert Storm? Guess I shouldn't talk. I wasn't going to get this anyway.

Ya thumbs down on the WW2 idea as well. It's kinda played out. I wish they did the lesser known wars. What about the Israeli / Egyptian war or something. Well I guess not many Americans were in that so scrap that idea. Well..how about the Korean war?

    Arcaida Jun 10, 08
They need to make it about WW3, not 2. Now THAT would be something people would buy into hella fast. We already have more WW2 games than we can count on the fingers and toes of a Mormon family, and a good deal of games have touched the whole 'modern warfare' idea now. Either add some realistic-yet-unrealistic elements, or just cover a war that doesn't even exist. It might not be the greatest idea, but at least it's new, and would get people to think a little bit. I'm sure I'll play this game, and I'm sure it'll be good. But seriously, there's only so much WWII I can handle. Half the people I know are certified specialists on that war by now, damn.

WWIII would be pretty awesome. Talibans have invaded the US, and you fight in places such as New York and Washington D.C killing off the terrorists as buildings are being destroyed in the background and bombs are being dropped. That would be bad ass.

I am pretty glad that WWII is back. I really enjoyed COD2 and COD3 because of that, and from just a few screenshots and story, COD5 seems to be going very very well in my opinion

AS everyone has said, i am over WW2.
I will definitely not be buying this game.

Everyone is being a little harsh on this.

Give it a fair chance, dont just go crapping over it because its a ww2 shooter. Racing games have been done over since games began, you dont see anyone goin "Im not getting this game because it has cars in it".

    Let it go man.

      doylie Jun 14, 08
We buy racing games 'cos it's in different settings, like motorstorm.

        Slumpy monkey Jun 14, 08
So, Grand turismo is on a racing track, Like tons of other racing games. I bet that will get better reviews and sell more than Motorstorm.

People are just being idiots and following the crowd instead of actually looking into the game

Theres hardley any info and yet people are labling it as "shit".

    Jak66* Jun 11, 08
Yeah. There is very little info on it yet and only a few screenshots, and almost everyone is already insisting that they will not even play it just because it's WWII. Just fricken wait until more information is revealed!? Don't judge it and say that it's a horrible game already JUST because it takes place back in WWII. Argh

I'll get it. Any COD game is worth a buy in my opinion.

Lets hope its good online etc.

I think I seen on the trailer some enemy getting nicked with a machete type thing or some other sharp object.. But i'll probably buy it for that one reason, to chop up the enemy scum with a nice heavy blade :]
