The cell chip that works your PS3 on the inside was used to power the fastest ever supercomputer in the world. It has made IBN's Roadrunner the first computer ever to process one quadrillion calculations per second. This means that your PS3 is quite smart indeed.

The Cell chip that forms the brains for your slick black PS3 has been used to power the fastest supercomputer in the world.

IBM's roadrunner supercomputer has shot into the record books after having become the first computer to process one quadrillion calculations per second. That's like one of those numbers you make up after a billion and, in more technical terms, is a *bleep*ing lot.

It managed that with 12, 960 Cell processors combined with 6,948 dual core AMD Opteron chips. We'd love to get Crysis running on that bad boy.

The previous record holder, the Blue Gene computer, had many more processors - 212,992 to be exact - but only managed half the processing speed (around 478.2 teraflops, if you know what they are). You can go here if you want to geek out on more specifics.

What does that mean for games? Nothing. But you can rest in the knowledge tonight that your PS3 has a good brain in its box.

No... This means that anyone that owns over 12,960 PS3's has a smart PS3 indeed, those normal people with just 1 have an average lackluster console, with little to no games and a poorly supported online service that has thus far failed to show off this "power"... But good for IBM, harnessing the power of the CPU they invented.

That's a pretty piss-poor description of the console.

Nah, Existenz is just mad because he knows that the PS3 is getting it's amazing games this year that owns all that the 360 and has to resort to making up bullshit about the PS3, saying it has bad multiplayer despite it's Free Service, Built In Wi-Fi, and Home. Then he resorts to saying it has bad games despite the many games the PS3 has like Resistance, Uncharted, R&C, Motorstorm, etc.

Some people are seriously *bleep*ing stupid, i mean my first post was perfectly reasonable i mean i own the damn console i wasn't happy with, my second i was having a go at some asshole that made a petty assumption, loving how stupid you people are... Thumbs up thumbs down take your pick and choose wisely nah *bleep* it you will still thumb me down for this...

No, your first post was not reasonable. When the 360 was new, you had NOTHING but bad things to say about the PS3. NOTHING. Soon after your 360 shitted on you, you began shitting all over the 360. Now, as of late, all you have been doing is jumping all over the PS3 again. Whats your purpose?

Thats crazy, that means that the PS3 is the smartest console out there. Already knew that.

I wonder how much those supercomputers go for, I need a new one...

Wow. I want that in my computer. My Compaq Presario is the complete opposite of this Roadrunner contraption, but its okay, because I beat it up sometimes.

God people are trigger happy today.

Well its not surprising I mean the cell processor is quite powerful. Its great for IBM that they made a successful new Processor.

I wonder if that chip is smarter than a human brain.
