Qore: First Impressions

JayCat | June 10, 2008 | News | Playstation 3
Gamefocus editor describes the good, the bad and the ugly on Qore, the PS3's monthly on line magazine and answers the important questions: What does it offer, and is it worth it?
First off the premiere ‘issue’ of Qore offers trailers for various PS3 and PSP games, a theme for SOCOM Confrontation, beta access for SOCOM Confrontation, Download content, movie trailer, and game information for a couple of games, all of that for .99 (or for .99 a year (13 episodes) plus ‘Calling all Cars’ for free if you buy the annual subscription). You would expect the service to not have any advertising but it does and sadly I was forced to watch a Burger King advertisement. I paid for a year and I am still forced to see that? Not great.

Of course I will admit this is the first issue and there is room for improvement and being the optimist that I am, Qore has huge potential to be the must have for PS3 owners.

Dear god, somebody get em a tissue, the 10 second advertisement is too much for them to take.

Big friggin deal, People pay a whole lot more for Sky television and they get hours of advertising a day, this is nothing to moan about in comparison

I actually understand that, what they DIDN'T mention was that you could SKIP commercials the second time around. Also, the criticism on the Download time is null and voided since it took me 30 minutes to download AND install the damn thing, I feel sorry for them though...6 hours, huh?

The price thing is about the only point they got right, which people need to wonder if this is worth giving up a whole subscription fee for. Otherwise, the 'This being the first issue doesn't say much for now' is really what should be considered mostly.

Tbh I'm with JayCat and Gamefocus on this. I know everyone is used to paying for TV and getting advertising, but the internet has been something that has allowed us all to get mostly away from that (free content subsidized by advertising, or paid content with less advertising).

I would actually agree, but the problem is that the advertisement is not only short but it's not something that pops up and interrupts you sessions. It will probably pop up once or twice during the whole session, and it happens when you're moving from one section to the next...it's honestly no big deal whatsoever.
