A lot of people disagree with this. Fans of Jimi are up in arms, Anti-Guitar Hero "haters" think it is trash. Personally, I think it is great marketing and a good idea, (providing they did not do any damage to the statue of course)

Image itself looks like it was either adorned on the statue, or terribly photoshopped, you be the judge.

The company recently decided to celebrate the fact that a couple of Guitar Hero performances would take place at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival, an event partly known for featuring one of Jimi Hendrix’s last performances before his tragic death. So how does one celebrate a fake guitar performance? By vandalizing a tribute to a real guitar legend, it seems. Activision decided to deck out a bronze statue of Hendrix to make it look like he was holding a Guitar Hero controller instead of an actual instrument.

Thats just disrespectful imo. Hendrix playing a fake guitar? And a GH guitar to boot? Thats so ridiculous. I hope that its just a fake plastic statue and that Activision removes it immediately before someone else does (or severely vandalizes it).

Genius... I love that, why go to all that effort spending millions advertising a game when you can print of some stickers and ad campaign finished.

As much as I love Guitar Hero, that is going too far.

Obviously a Photoshop job, and a pretty shoddy one at that.
