The game Track and Field DS will have online competitions globally, confirmed Konami. Konami had previously confirmed that the game would have online things as well.

You will connect to a server that will update world records when they are broken. There won't be chat text, but there will be taunts like in Mario Kart Wii.

Konami has previously confirmed that New International Track and Field for the Nintendo DS would include online elements, but today the developer has spoken out to divulge the Wi-Fi mode in more detailing, revealing world record tables, character unlocking, global competitions, and more.

Using the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi connection, players can link into a server that constantly updates the World Records as and when they are broken. Global high scores and world rankings are instantly logged and players are kept updated via an RSS-alike feed to their console. And while fully-free chat won’t be permitted, players will be able to send each other taunts and congratulations in the form of pre-determined lines (a la Mario Kart Wii).

As for unlocking new characters, first you’ll have to register on the game’s official website for it to happen. Aside from all this, players from around the world (up to four at any one time) will be able to compete in International Track and Field’s numerous events, either as one-offs or in local and global competitions, which Konami will also host via the game’s Internet site.
