E3 2008 is taking place in July, and most people are watching Sony, Nintendo, an Microsoft to see if they'll announce any new big games. And there are rumors that Nintendo will announce a brand new (much awaited) franchise that would shock gamers considerably.

With the now scaled-down E3 event set to take place next month, all eyes are firmly focused on each of the big three companies to see what special treats they will be bringing to the table. Rumours are pointing towards Nintendo bringing out an all-new franchise that will shock gamers considerably.

Previously it had been touched up by Nintendo of America’s president Reginald Fils-Aime that something big was coming at this year’s E3 media event, stating to Geoff Keighley of GameTrailers back in March that, “What we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. There’s gonna be a big game for the holiday that the gamers (and expanded audience) will want.” But what exactly could this be? When asked about when Wii Music, Fils-Aime said it could well turn up as the American arm of the company had just been over in Japan taking a look at an updated version of the project. However, when asked if Donkey Kong would be back, he just avoided answering, saying he did not want to go there. But that is all old news.

It's not like they don't make new franchises. It's just they tend to not to put them in the spotlight. >_>

Sin and Punishment. Golden Sun. Brain Age. Wii line of games. Endless Ocean. Giest. Chibirobo. Drill Dozer. That ball rolling game with the microphone, Odama I think? Just off the top of my head.

That's ignoring new game series that feature Nintendo licenses, such as Warioware, and that all of the N64 and many of the GC games in the big franchises were completely different than their 2D roots. They share the same name, but the gameplay is very different in 3D.

By all technicalities, Sin & Punishment and Golden Sun are more defined by Treasure and Camelot respectively, rather than Nintendo.

Nintendo fully supported the titles however, and still holds the intellectual rights to the IPs. The only difference between them and any other 1st party Nintendo offering is that the team is in a different building.

Name 1 game from N64-Wii that doesnt have Mario, Wario, Zelda, Metroid or Super Smash in the title made by nintendo.
Here is a list of Nintendo-developed games on the N64, GCN, and Wii that doesn't have Mario, Wario, Zelda, Metroid, or Super Smash in the title:

        1080 Snowboarding
        Pokemon Stadium
        Pokemon Stadium 2
        Yoshis Story
        Pokemon Snap
        Donkey Kong 64
        Excitebike 64
        Hey You, Pikachu
        Kirby 64: Crystal Shards

        Ridge Racer 64

        Luigi's Mansion
        Pikmin

        Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
        Battalion Wars 2
        Endless Ocean
        Wii Fit
        Wii Chess
        Disaster: Day of Crisis

There's alot more I can name on the Nintendo DS, such as Tetris DS, Advance Wars, Brain Age, Big Brain Academy, Electroplankton, Starfox Command, Yoshi's Island DS, etc etc.

Donkey Kong is Rares game, even if Nintendo has rights to it now they destroyed that franchise. Also alot of those games not from nintendo, also you didnt mention Fire Emblem, that game series is the best thing Nintendo has come up with besides their core series. Still though I will say, I am wrong, Nintendo has made alot more games that I had remembered that were their own series.

Still, Donkey King is a Nintendo-owned IP. They created DK, not Rare.

Ridge Racer 64 was developed by Nintendo and Namco. So yes, RR64 was developed by Nintendo.

As for Fire Emblem, it's developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. But I'm sure Nintendo helps I.S. with the development process, so I guess you can add it to the list.

How does that make it a new franchise though? Yoshi is a character reused in many Nintendo games. There's been a few games where he was the main character as well, biggest one being Yoshi's Story probably. If he was included in the game, it would still be considered part of the Mario/Yoshi franchise.

It might be a new 3-D free roam game or whatever. But if it uses an old character, then it's not a new franchise.

Haha, would be hilarious if this new Nintendo protagonist was a foul-mouthed, chain-smoking gangster, holding up the head of Mario in one hand and the head of Wario in the other.

"We're taking Nintendo to dangerous new levels!"
