The Wii has USB ports in the back of it's hardware, but so far they have pretty much gone unused. A report has came in that Nintendo is testing USB devices for the Wii.

The Nintendo Wii has USB connectors hidden in the back of its tiny white frame, but so far they've gone unused. That all may be changing soon, as a report came out today that Nintendo of America is going to be testing USB devices.

Engadget points to a job listing that has appeared from Nintendo of America for a "Software/Hardware Tester" to help create a "test plan for Wii's USB devices." Details are sparse beyond that, but our gut reaction is to hope for a hard drive attachment to add storage space for Virtual Console and WiiWare games.

We may just be full of wishful thinking, though. Recent comments from a Nintendo of Europe representative would seem to indicate that storage is the last thing on Nintendo's mind. The fact that this listing originates from the American arm of the company could suggest Nintendo of America is working to fill the storage need that U.S. gamers have been very vocal about. Alternatively, they could simply be working on their own proprietary Wiimote charger. We'll update as soon as we've discovered more info.

They should make USB cords for it. It would be easier to connect to the internet.
