MGS4 beat Grand Theft Auto: IV at sales in UK!

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots sales record in the U.S have yet to be seen but it topped some records in the U.K. MGS4 has beat Grand Theft Auto: IV at sales. That's right GTA: IV the game with the colossal fanbase was beaten by MGS4!

We have yet to see the official NPD numbers for the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots launch for the US, but Chart Track has revealed their weekly software sales findings for the UK...and not surprisingly, Konami's masterpiece sits firmly at the top of the charts.

It beat out LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (#2) and Grand Theft Auto IV (#3), and on top of it all, MGS4 became the second-fastest selling PS3 game in the UK. It just barely topped Gran Turismo 5: Prologue by about 2,000 units according to VideoGamer.com, and if that's the case, this means MGS4 sold about 125,000 total copies. However, while it beat out MGS3 by 24,000 units, it still fell shy of MGS2 by 14,000. Hideo Kojima was recently inducted into the gaming version of the Guinness World Records for having the "best selling stealth video game in history," and that was MGS2. But this is only the UK region; all in all, there is a distinct possibility that MGS4 could top the second installment in the critically acclaimed series.

    ^^ How dare you? GTA is dam good. It deserves some respect. I'm sure that MGS4 deserves some respect too but I haven't played it. You respect GTA and I will respect MGS4.

      I never said I don't respect GTA4 I just feel that MGS4 is FAR superiors to GTA4.

      GTA4 may be brilliant when playing the story, but once the story is finished the game loses it's fun factor.

      Now for the cry babies out there, that's MY opinion and not in the slightest do I think everyone should feel the same.

      GTAL, you haven't even played GTA4. MGS4 is 10 times better then GTA4 without a doubt. Don't speak about something if you haven't even played either games.

    I'm not surprised. I wouldn't expect sale for IV to go up that high in Europe anyways. I just believe there are more gamers into MGS there but I' probably wrong.

    Yeah you're right, in Europe there is probably not that many GTA fanboys, I'm guessing that MGS4 sales in the U.S won't beat GTA: IV sales.

    Anyway, I didn't see this coming tbh but it deserves the success its been getting so far. Epic game.

    It seems like Metal Gear Solid always comes out about the same time as GTA (which is even more ironic this time because they were both delayed), and while I love both series, I've always said GTA does not even begin to compare to MGS. I've forgotten about IV already, and that's saying something. But wutda*bleep*up with the fake box cover?

    In all honesty, I did not see this coming. I figured that because it was limited to one console (unlike GTA IV), it wouldn't sell as much. But thank goodness it proved me wrong.

    I also didn't expect it to sell 1,000,000 copies in one day, but it did that too, and then some.

    I'm quite surprised tbh.

    I went to midnight releases for both and for GTA it was queued right out the door. Meanwhile there was 6 people there for MGS.

    Why are people surprised that a game sells more on it's release day than a game that has been out for like 7 weeks?

    A new game is beating a game that has been out for two months?! What has the world come to?

    Obviously not really suprising, but deserved nonetheless. If I had the money, I'd consider buying a PS3 for MGS4.

        I played it a bit the other day, and tbh I think you're probably right. Gonna have to wait for either more money or a price drop though.

        Having said that, the fact that Snake looks like that Austrian rapist makes me sad.

    I just saw an article saying PS3 sales barely went up with MGS4. I'm also surprised that article hasn't reached GameGrep yet.

    @ illmatic, I am not being sarcastic at all, I went on Google to see if there was a MGS4 pic so I picked the smallest one, it was a 360 one, I didn't know that MGS4 was exclusively for PS3, next time I will have to do some more research.
