No Grand Theft Auto Movie. Ever.

According to a Hollywood reporter, there can't ever be a Grand Theft Auto film because of the other film called Grand Theft Auto, the Ron Howard one. A mutual agreement between Rockstar and Fox (who own the movie rights).

The claim is that a legal settlement stated that whilst Rockstar don’t make a movie of the game, Fox - the owners of the movie’s copyright - will not make a game adaptation of their film. They both own the rights to the name, for different uses.

    This sucks! Well we can call it another name, based on which game it is, like San Andreas or Vice City.

    If they made a Grand Theft Auto movie, it would most certainly ruin the series. Game to movie conversions never work. Look at Doom and Mortal Kombat.

      Doom was a fantastic movie, and so was Mortal Kombat. It must be a matter of taste but I loved both films.

        MK was cool, Doom, not really
        besides, we dont need a movie for GTA as its based of movies in the 1st place

          Doom would have been awesome if the whole movie was in first-person view. Hell, I would have paied a cinema ticket for that

          The ten minutes of first-person made it worth watching though. XD

    What?

    That didn't stop the fact that there are two films called "The Incredible Hulk". Not saying that I want a GTA film, but surely that isn't a good enough reason to stop it.

      The rights to that is owned by Marvel and they can do what ever they want with it.
