Back in the day, Mega Man used to be a hit, but as the series progressed, the series has weakened and Stephen Munn of Aeropause thinks the Mega Man games we loved have died. Will Mega Man 9 put the series back on track?

With Capcom’s announcement that Star Force 2, in its various collectible flavors, is now available at retail, I find only lament for what’s been done to my beloved Blue Bomber. Like most people, I discovered Mega Man at Mega Man 2, widely considered the definitive episode in the franchise all those years ago. I went on to play the original and when Mega Man 3 came out, I had saved up my pennies (I was 14) to pick it up at launch. This wasn’t three months after I had done the same with Castlevania 3… it was a good time to be a gamer.

After 20 games, Mega Man must be feeling pretty tired. Maybe he needs a vacation.

To answer the question..they've explored other avenues. On principle anyway, I think thats awesome. Havent played much outside the regular series.

They've explored way too many other avenues, tbh. Maybe I'm just too big a fan of the original series, but I do want to see Megaman 9 in the near future, not Megaman X13 or Megaman Starforce 4.

Megaman classic and Megaman X are their originals that I think they should support a bit more. Both series have peaked at 8 games right now, so I'd love to at least see some closure with Megaman 9 and Megaman X9 in the future.

Also, Megaman has been featured in over 100 different games (I think it's really like 120-something).

The last good Mega Man game was X8. It was awesome, much improved over the travesty of X7.

Megaman is like Sonic...Great at one time, but is now a joke, pretty much....

I played Megaman X on the SNES a lot....I wanted to get X2 (never did, but I played it)....

I think Megaman works best in 2D....a 3D megaman just doesn't work so well...I WOULD like to see a good side-scroller for megaman on the DS or something....No/Minimal use of the touchscreen, thank you >_>

I liked the Megaman battle network series more than the X series, I never got to play the originals though so I can't compare them, I liked Megaman legends the most though.

To be honest, I don't think this new mega man will put it back on track. Its just a classic that needs to stay as one. I rather not have a potential fall with this new one. I agree with Tallteen here.

I feel the article creator, I remember back in the day in the arcade I would use to play with Mega Man in the "Marvel Vs. Capcom" game.

Maybe it is good that they are going good things, but the classics were really good. At least they are exploring the Nintendo DS.

I'm a huge fan of the original Mega Man games, and the few X games I played. The characters will always have a special place in my heart, even if the franchise has become something totally unrecognizable.

I always thought the new Mega Man designs looked too much like a pedophile's wet dream. But as with many long running franchises, they've had to seriously reconsider their target demographic and adapt to changing audiences. I'm going to bet that the newer Mega Man games are supposed to appeal to a younger crowd than those who grew up with the old bulky reploids.

The same can be said about classic RPGs versus new, where action gameplay usually overtakes turn-based. Nevermind all the revamped cartoons on TV now. WHAT have they done to Transformers? My God.... good thing they're not bring She-Ra back as an anime.
