An Uncertain Future For Assassin's Creed

Coltrain | June 24, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
The future of the Assassin's Creed franchise could be in doubt.
Ubisoft are considering public opinion before release the next installment, meaning that if you are a fan you will need to shout loud and clear "Give us Assassin's Creed 2!"
Assassin's Creed has received mixed reviews and the public opinion is currrently very much split. With all the innovation and style the title displayed, in the end it was little more than repetitive "go to X which leads to Y" gameplay wrapped in an interesting story.

That's a very interesting way to approach a sequel, but I like the idea of making it known that the voices of fans means something. It goes to show that millions of sales don't mean shit if the product isn't accepted, and they obviously have been paying attention. Assassin's Creed had supreme potential, but the repetitive gameplay, almost horrible combat, repetitive gameplay, glitches, and zero replay value are all reasons why it got mixed reviews. And the gameplay is so damn repetitive..

The combat wasn't much of a problem, really...until you reach the fight against the Templars. They should try the same formula but MORE things to do in the cities. Like tons of side-missions, and optional missions concerning citizens and whatnot.

Then again, thanks to storyline continuation, I'm pretty sure they;re gonna have problems trying to stick to ONE setting.

Why would they have to stick to one setting?

I'd like to see a sequel for sure. They did very well with the first one. Since they already have an engine they could concentrate on some varied quests to keep repetition down. As well as take more time to polish out some of the glitches.

I think it's weird as hell that you're playing in the Crusades era and in the future all at the same time. Not to mention Desmond's sessions were really uneventful, which that needs some work too.

I liked AC personally, but Ubisoft are gonna have to really pull it out of the bag to win over more fans with a sequel.

I would love a sequel, the first game was great. Sure it was flawed, but Ubisoft has to learn from their mistkaes, listen to the fans and deliver us a proper sequel.

A lot of people complained about it's "repetitiveness." I personally didn't mind, but could see how the missions were annoying. I hope they do make a sequel and give more mission variety.

Really? You didn't mind doing the same thing over and over again. Wouldn't it have been great to have each location feel unique, other than their actual appearance? I would have thought it would have been obvious to have investigations relative to where you are, rather than going about them the same way.

Well, I didn't do all the missions, my brother did 5/9 of them. But yeah, that's what I meant by mission variety. It was dull going about each mission the same way. I was more into travelling around, the gameplay mechanics were pretty damn smooth (at least for hopping around buildings and such).

They should do one set in modern times. That'd be awesome.

That would be a dumb move on ubisoft's part if they didn't make a sequel.
