Have you ever wondered how Shigeru Miyamoto (the creator of Mario and various other series) makes such successful and (usually) high quality games?

Today, he revealed his "secret" to helping his game designers create good, high quality Nintendo titles ...

When asked about maintaining quality control at Nintendo, Miyamoto says the key is in avoiding Sega-style design. He tells Wired, "I'm always instructing my game designers on the history of the characters and worlds we've created. Often we're in development and I'll say, 'Oh, this looks like a Sega game. We need to make it look more like Mario.'" Ouch.

    Miyamoto's true key should be:

    Less Mario
    More other Franchises.

So very true, but lets change it to:
      Less Mario, Zelda and Metroid
      New Franchises.

        Disagree about Zelda and Metroid.

While Zelda has lots of games, it doesn't have 20 games on one console (looks at Nintendo Gamecube) nor does it get some crappy sports spin-off.

But They've been milking those titles since the mid/late 80s to now. Im all for making a few here and there but not for 20 years now. Its just ridiculous.

Says the guy who likes the FFVII Compilation - a series that has been milked for over a decade.

The ony difference is they are standalone titles, not like FF7 go carts, FF7 skiing, FF7.....etc. Mario has been milked like that. Besides the compilation started around 1999, and not every year make another spinoff, it usually has a few years here and there, hence my stated above yours.

Final Blade Final Fantasy is like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid, and personally I am glad to have fiction worlds that can have such depth gained over the years.

err ... no they're not. A standalone title is a title that has no sequels and prequels. It stands alone.

Oh yeah that's a great way to make money, "

"hmm this doesn't look that interesting, I have a original idea lets insert Mario into it"

    I'm here all week

By the way, I think he meant that some games take themselves to seriously, and with that theory Shadow the Hedgehog (game) is for many (not me though to be honest) the perfect example. Mario can mock itself.

That and some strange bright purple liquid that blocked out the last few years.

Even the new Sonic games take themselves too seriously. I mean "Sonic Unleased"? What the hell?
