PlayStation 3 Firmware v2.40 is due out in around three weeks, around the same time as E3 2008. With regards to in-game XMB, not all the features can be accessed while playing a game. Some features you can access includes: Friends menu, Settings menu, Music menu, and sign-in to PlayStation Network.

In-game access is limited to:

* Friend category
* View, send, receive messages
* Manage downloads
* Set the vibration feature of the controller
* Sign in to PlayStation Network
* Register friends
* Manage Bluetooth devices
* Terminate the game
* Music category
* Use the system BGM
* Work the system BGM operation panel
* Settings category
* Assign controllers
* View profiles
* Game category
* Set audio devices
* Use the voice changer

      this is rumoured to be in development, as sony are trying something out where you cna upload vids onto youtube via ps3

    These 'official' release dates are really pissing me off.

    Awesome that we can access music, though. But give in-game XMB one week and gamers will get greedy, wishing for features that are impossible.

      'Net browser would kill the machine. Not only is the game itself still running, but the PS3 would also have to run the internet, and as we all know, PS3's internet browser is prone to overloading.

      Don't get why no voice-chat. I wanna be able to know what my buddies playing COD4 are doing whilst I play Oblivion!!

    Messages and Music - that was all I would have used anyway so this is great news.

    Voice chat would have been the icing. For some reason I still won't feel confident about in-game music until I see it myself.
