GameStrata revealed the data from a survery they conducted and it showed that gamers spend over $30,000 on software and hardware that involve video games. Over 85 percent of the people who were surveyed said that purchased something over the past month and 40 percent of them play online 6-10 hours a week.

GameStrata today announced the results of a survey of "video game enthusiasts" in North America. The study shows that between the ages of 18 – 48, the average gamer spends over $30,500 on game software and hardware.

"With forecasters estimating this year's sales will reach nearly $23 billion, it's clear that gaming is the fastest-growing sector in the entertainment industry," said Barry Dorf, COO of GameStrata. "The best part is that the trend doesn't show any signs of slowing. In spite of predictions of a sluggish economy, gamers continue to invest their time and money into electronic entertainment."

That's understandable seeing as they are talking about a span of 30 years. That's only about a thousand a year. I spend about a fourth of that a year, but I know of a lot of people that spend way more than I do.

Yeah, $1000/year is actually understandable, that's not even $100 a month. And by today's standards, that's about 1 game every month.

I try not to spend too much money on gaming devices. I try to enjoy the most recent thing that I bought a long time before I go and buy something else.

I swear, why spend that much money. If I see a game I want, I wait until about a year after it comes out and it's price has dropped, and I always get a used one. It's cheaper, and you get what you wanted and more. Thats what I call a penny pincher.

    Woah.
I'm lucky to belong to a family that has excess money, but I don't think we've spent quite that much, hopefully.
