A few weeks ago it was rumored that a 3D Castlevania was in the works.
Today, it has been officially confirmed, though not in the way fans would expect (or hope).

The new Castlevania is a 3D fighter!

I know you guys wouldn’t believe this unless I had proof. Reader Blissteria was nice enough to take some pictures from the latest issue of Nintendo Power. I am only going to post one, due to ‘fair use’. Also, I just wanted to make sure that you guys believed the news!

Characters confirmed thus far - Dracula, Simon, Alucard, Shanoa, and Maria Renard.
Classic subweapons - holy water, magic spells, dagger, boomerang
Subweapon use still depends on hearts
Remixed classic Castlevania tunes
Set traps, destroyable environments, enemy monsters interfere with battle
Nunchuck controls character movement, Wiimote used for motion attacks

Not exactly what we were thinking, is it?!

Some more snippets from the Nintendo Power article…
- Maria unlocked through DS to Wii connectivity
- special move gauge that builds up to a move that is much like a “final smash”
- some sort of WFC interaction
- character models by Takeshi Obata (Death Note)
- Quote from Igarashi “I guess some fans may worry about the game quality, but I am confident that we can achieve a very high-quality game. I think that fans…will see that it stays true to the Castlevania series. Even though this is a fighting game I can guarantee that it will be fun.”

Damn it. I was really hoping for a 3D adventure game. Oh well, considering the lack of fighting games on the console I suppose it's not a bad addition to the Wii's library. Also, Konami seems to be trying to take advantage of the fact that Soul Calibur IV isn't going to appear on the Wii. Smart move.

It does look like a Soul Calibur at first glance, so the new gameplay had better have some exclusive features and they better WORK. Seriously going from Platformer/Action/Adventure to Fighter is not a logical transition.

On a sidenote, I do hope they have the N64 Castlevania characters...the N64 Castlevania games (Mainly "Legacy of Darkness") were the BEST 3D Castlevania games ever.

If they're including the 3D games, then I hope they add the Castlevania: Lament of Innocence characaters.
The game was average, but I loved the characters... Leon, Walter, Joachim, etc.

My only real wish is for them to not follow in Bleach's path. Motion controls can be fun when used properly, but if you're actually creating a serious fighting game then PLEASE make it classic controller compatible.

With Obata doing the art for the game, I'm willing to give this a look. But nothing more as of yet.

I can't tell if this is a joke question or serious.
