With Tecmo in strife, has Fatal Frame IV been cancelled?

Gothic Girl | June 27, 2008 | News | Playstation 2 Wii Company
With Tecmo in strife with it's employees, fans have begun to worry about the fate of Tecmo's games and the company itself. Nobody knows the future of the Dead or Alive or the Ninja Gaiden series, but what about Tecmo's upcoming Fatal Frame IV? Rumors have been circulating around the 'net that the game has been delayed or cancelled alltogether! But how true are these rumors?

Cameraslens has sorted out the facts from the rumors. (Go to source for full article).

Tecmo versus Itagaki
For starters, Itagaki is NOT the creator of the Fatal Frame Series. Neither is Team Ninja. I dislike it when people assume this is so. Keisuke Kikuchi, Makoto Shibata, and Project Zero worked on the Zero (ie Fatal Frame) games.

As of now, this lawsuit isn't effecting the fourth edition of the Fatal Frame game, as it's still coming out on July 31st in Japan. Until the lawsuit came about, Tecmo stock reports mentioned that Tecmo was planning on selling the fourth game to a GLOBAL MARKET (ie Europe & US). They haven't stated otherwise as of yet...and since Nintendo is footing the bill for advertising and publishing, I don't think the lawsuit will effect this.

Only 20,000 copies to be shipped?
First and foremost ... THIS IS A RUMOR. GoNintendo.com has even stated that THIS IS A RUMOR.
I can see why fans would be upset at this one - Fatal Frame III had a lot more press/publicity by this point in time.
More copies of any of the previous games (including the orignal) were shipped then 20,000 .... so already, considering the other numbers attached with this .... these numbers seem off/strange.

Sweet link, I didn't even know there were Fatal Frame websites. Indeed, we still have yet to fully know how the fallout from Team Ninja's implosion and the resulting lawsuits will effect Tecmo as a whole. Things are admittedly looking kinda hairy for the company now, which hurts considering the cool franchises they have outside of the ones Itagaki-san played a part in. I guess that's why Tecmo would rather the press not jump to conclusions.

I don't think it will be cancelled. It's far in development, and it should be released this summer. If that is the case, it should be in the testing and debugging phase right now, or at least the final stages of development (final touches and such). Seeing as they are developing with both Grasshopper and Nintendo's help, losing Tecmo employees probably isn't enough to get this title cancelled, seeing as it should be nearly complete by now. Besides, isn't it mostly Team Ninja that's losing employees? I don't think they are involved with Fatal Frame IV at all.

There is the possibility of it being cancelled, of course, but I wouldn't lose hope yet. Actual development should be (nearly) over by now.
