Wii Fit scam prompts police investigation

chautemoc | June 29, 2008 | News | Wii
Online store Zavvi Direct Ltd, which went live June 4, has been accused of ripping off hundreds of customers, by pretending to be connected to Zavvi Entertainments (a firm which took over Virgin Megastores last year) and taking orders at £69.99 for copies of Wii Fit, then never delivering. Police are currently investigating the situation, and have thus far seized £50,000 from the company.

The online store currently has a note up with some contact information stating the following:

Zavvi Entertainment Ltd have no involvement with this website.

Due to copy right laws we have had to remove this web site.

We have been assured by [company director at Companies House] Paul Clayton that any orders placed will be honoured.
The firm is registered as being based at Suite 16, 20 Old Steine, Brighton. But any customers visiting the property, which is also the given address of the registered company secretary, Steven McClelland, 23, will find an empty single room in the converted terrace with just a piece of paper with the name Zavvi Limited taped to the door.
