Valve And Blizzard Ask Microsoft To Help PC Gaming

Coltrain | June 30, 2008 | News | PC
It is quite simple, Microsoft create the Operating System that PC gaming runs on. And Valve and Blizzard believe that for PC Gaming to continue and prosper, Microsoft need to do more to help promote and develop the platform and have been vocal in their call to arms.
Blizzard, creators of the all comsuming World Of Warcraft, have waded into the PC gaming platform debate, suggesting that Microsoft needs to put in more resources and focus more heavily to bring gamers back. This follows the Valve press conference in which it was inferred that Microsoft should be taking the lead in promoting PC gaming and informing the community, rather than the individual developers taking the lead.

If only the PC world would get some games that can only be well executed on the PC. :/

I disagree with you there. For starters, RTS games are better executed on the PC, and I would argue FPS games as well.

Oh I didn't even mention MMORPGS.

FPS, RTS and MMORPGS are executed better on the PC. There is no arguement there, it's fact.

It would be nice to see that the PC gaming world is not dominated by MMOs (I do play WoW and GW, myself). I didn't get Orange Box until TF2 became available separately on PC -- there are just some games I think that are best suited for a mouse and keyboard... not a controller.

The only thing that annoys me about PC gaming is trying to keep up with it. Computers are expensive, yet they become outdated in the blink of an eye (that's how quick it feels, anyway). Developers will keep making games for consoles, so the hardware doesn't go out of fashion for quite some time. But in a few years, your current computer won't be able to run any (good) games on the market as efficiently.

At the same time you'd pay over a thousand dollars to a run a PC Game at max settings while you can get an Xbox for about 350 and run the same game in what's probably max settings for a fraction of the cost.

Honestly, if the Xbox was given a keyboard and mouse attachment via USB it would likely murder the PC.

Your forgetting though that you can do WAY more with a $1000 PC than an Xbox beyond playing games.

The PC at max settings will look better than the Xbox.

You also need to pay a subscription fee to play on Xbox Live, while Valve's Steam service and Blizzard's Battle.net are free. PC Games also tend to be cheaper than current console games.
