These teens don't know where to place their shooting and driving skills from what they've learnt in GTA video games.
These teens have difficulty separating fact from fiction, fantasy from reality and this resulted a series of robberies. "It was quite alarming," The New York Post quoted Nassau County Police detective-lieutenant Raymond Cote.

Police have blamed Grand Theft Auto IV for a two-hour crime rampage by a gang of six crazed youths in New York.

Having already sold more than 8.5 million copies worldwide, the game sees players shoot police, sell drugs and car-jack vehicles. And in its real-life enactment these six youngsters' rampage involved mugging, several break-ins and an attempted car-jacking in Garden City.

"They decided they were going to go out to commit robberies and emulate the character Nico Belic in the particularly violent video game Grand Theft Auto. These teens have difficulty separating fact from fiction, fantasy from reality. It was quite alarming," The New York Post quoted Nassau County Police detective-lieutenant Raymond Cote, as saying.

According to the police, it was at 11.30pm on June 24 that the rampage began and teenagers Brandon Cruz, 15, Gurnoor Singh, 14, Samuel Philip, 16, and Jaspreet Singh, 17, opted to go execute their wild plan when they were looking for something to do while sitting in Memorial Park in New Hyde Park.

They then decided to act out the game, in which players live out the life of Belic, an Eastern European criminal who uses murder and robbery to rise to the top of the underworld in "Liberty City", which has a close similarity to New York City.

"They were bored and decided this was a good idea," said Lt Cote.

First off blaming gta is totally wrong... Just look at the age of all them. Not one should have been aloud to to buy the game in the first place. Blame the store they bought it from or the dumb a** parents for buying it for them.. This is just more fuel for that pr*k JACK Thompson!

Ah, so kids go on a crime spree and apparently it's because of GTA? So if I go to America and ruin a classic painting by drawing a funny face on it will an angry mob hunt down Rowan Atkinson blaming it on Mr. Bean?

But no, it can't be because these kids have nothing else to do with their pitiful excuses for existances can it? It isn't due to the fact their parents are ass-holes or because all they see in the garbage of a city they live in is crime and violence... it isn't because their leaders teach them violence is good or it can't be down to the fact no-one gives a shit about them (which is apparent by the fact they're doing this shit)... but nay, let's not blame it on the idiots responsible, let's blame it on a video-game, because that must be the problem. If they didn't exist society would be all fine and dandy wouldn't it?

    Go team **tard.

What the *bleep*? You can't mug people in GTA unless you kill them, you can't get a crowbar in GTA, and you'd have to miserably fail at life to not be able to actually steal a car.

In any case, blaming this on GTA is just wrong. What about Saint's Row, as well as MANY otehr games where you can do this? All in all, blaming it on anything other than their own thoughts and actions is just so goddamn stupid and irresponsible.

Well at least the kids will now be away from the sane people. Good, we don't need killings from them.

Yes of course i'm influenced by my games. *Strips off from the waist upwards, cover myself in red warpaint and seize two blades on the end of chains.*

Couldn't the immitate a better game for crying out load, like Pokemon or Smash Brawl?

Clearly they're mentally disturbed. If they truly can't distinguish reality from fantasy, then something like this was going to happen anyway. It's just a shame that GTA was the reason they did it and video-games are put under the limelight for all the wrong reasons yet again.

Well, on a positive note, at least the detective had the good sense to say it wasn't the game's fault, just these idiot's inability to separate fantasy and reality.

Clearly those kids have problems. It's like Obama says though, the ones at fault here are the parents, they clearly should not have let their kids purchased the game.

I don't know. The game can't be blame fully on the parents. What if they had a similar problem, or didn't understand the rating, one friend I know, told his parents the rating was how many levels the game had on it.

      Stupidity isn't an excuse.

Morons have kids despite the fact they shouldn't.

If they speak English and have an internet connection, perhaps you should introduce them to those watchdog websites that allow concerned individuals to search any game and read up on the content of that game.

Kids are stupid. Stop having them.

Seriously though, how many times have we seen crap like this go down? Kid shoots someone, robs a place, does something criminally *bleep*, and we blame it on the controversial form of media of the moment. I think there was a school shooting blamed on Linkin Park or some other group a few years back.

If these kids were REALLY inspired by GTA, they are unbelievably stupid individuals.

Kids can be stupid, but it's these stupid journalists and media sources who make the assumptions and stories who should be blamed for this influx, not the games.

      Kids like these need help.

I think in this case it may not be the media blowing things so out of proportion. The article states that the police cited GTA as an influencing factor in the crime.

Though there is probably other information that they excluded. People just need to quit blaming games in general and look at themselves for a moment.

I don't think so though, gta is distributed around the world.
I'm not saying it has a curse kei?
But anyone can act like those kids.

I think the punch-line was that GTAIV is set in Liberty City, which is based on New York, ergo why it just had to be in New York

    Yeah, got it.
Maybe it just have to be in New York.
    Because the setting's really there.
    But I don't mean to..you know..
