Contrary to claims on N4G, Sony says it has no plans to bring PlayStation 2 games to the PlayStation Network, as Microsoft has done with its Xbox Originals service. The forum post read as such:

"I was speaking to a friend last night on MSN who works at Sony London. I was actually asking him about the new XMB update, and if he knows when it'll be out. He told me it was scheduled to launch E3, but more interesting was his info on a new Playstation 2 Store that'll also be announced at E3 too! Basically Sonys answer to Xbox Originals. He even sent me a pic, ive uploaded it here.
Apparently, it wont be released during E3, but is scheduled for a late summer release. Most surprising is that its supposedly launching in Europe first! Guess Sony has realised how valuable us Europeans are to them!"

Sony says they have no plans for such a thing.

"I'm not sure where the image came from," said Sony's Patrick Seybold, when questioned by GamePro on visible allegations that PS2 games would be coming to the PlayStation Store. "At this point, we haven't made any announcements, and there are no plans for PS2 downloadable titles on PS3."

That image looks pretty believable, and I hope it does come. But how can a sony rep say that there isn't?

Yeah totally. I'm thinking either the image is fake (someone made it themselves), or Sony is denying it for legal and/or monetary reasons (i.e they want to wait to announce it).

It's fake. There's been confirmation from Sony on several sites today that the image is a mock up.

That image is EASILY reproducible. All you need to do is get a picture of the current store, change the images to that of PS2 games, upload it to your PS3, and view it full screen, then take a picture of it from an angle...

I don't care, as long as I can still get PS2 games from my local stores. Besides, get more than 2 PS2 games on my 60GB HD and I'd have a lot of filled space.

Its not real. Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me some of the product images do not line up, added to that the top of the Red Faction icon has a bit of white on it, probably from where the image used was cropped too small and layered over an older image.

The icon in the top row, farthest right is another indicator; the shot is from an angle, but the text on it is as if it were straight on.

Yeah, that seems to be because that image is slightly rotated too much it is not straight like the others, the others mainly vary in size where as this sits at a slight angle.

We need a lot more PS1 games on offer before PS2 games should even be considered.
