A lot of people are worried about their PS3's after hearing the latest updates 2.40 has a bug which can wreck a small percentage of the consoles out there. However Sony have announced that anyone who has not experienced any problems so far should be fine. That there PS3 will not blow up in six months or so.
Also those who have experienced problems from downloading the update will be happy to here that Sony are planning on replacing all PS3's which have died as a result of the glitch free of charge.
Now, in addition, Jeff Rubenstein added some good news further on down in the comments section: "Weve received no reports of hardware issues following a successful install." This means that if you have downloaded firmware 2.40 and you're experiencing no issues, everything is fine. You don't need to worry about your PS3 blowing up at some point down the road because you downloaded a faulty firmware update, and that's a relief for many of us. As for those of you who had some major problems, Sony is working to figure this out, and have already responded to some of you. In fact, according to some results from a few of our readers, Sony is offering to fix "bricked" PS3s for free, so feel free to call 'em up and explain the situation.
If you haven't yet obtained 2.40, stay tuned to PSXE for future updates. We'll let you know when Sony brings it back, and it's safe to nab.
