The Dualshock 3 controller for Sony's PS3 hits shelves in Europe today, equipped with powers of vibration. Greg Howson of Guardian asks: is it worth the price?

The controller finally brings vibration - left out of the original PS3 pads for legal rather than design reasons - back to the Playstation. Rumble is subtly effective, especially on racing games, and is one of those features that you tend to miss when not there. So today's release has got to be good news for PS3 owners right? Not quite. The main problem is the price - the controller costs 40 quid. That's around 10 more than the original Sixaxis PS3 controller and the 360's pad. Reviews suggest the new controller is fine, but is it worth 40 pounds? Heck, is any pad? Any PS3 owners here planning to get one?

Is it worth it? If you want a fully immersive game experience, then heck yes it's worth it.

I don't put £40 on immersive gameplay, i already have a controller that works well albeit without rumble. I am fine until that price lowers, ergonomically the controller is identical to mine so i would be spending £40 for one feature which is not worth it.

Well if you need a new controller you might as well get the rumble one. I'll be getting two in a month

Pretty pointless in my opinion. £40 could buy you a brand new game, controllers shouldn't cost so much.

What a crappy article. All he does is whinge about the price and then clumsily ask if it's worth it, without actually giving any valuable insight or analysis into the pros and cons of the Dualshock 3. I probably wouldn't have paid £40, but I got minje imported for £28 so I don't care either way.

Also, considering the sixaxis is being flogged dirt cheap now and is slowly being phased out, the whole question of "is it worth it" becomes a little redundant - soon if a PS3 owner wants a second controller they won't have any option but to get a DS3.

A late release date and it still costs £40? Sony really hates Europe.
