A new Star Wars Battlefront is probably inevitable and the rumors have definitely been rekindled after Amazon have put up Star Wars Battlefron 3 for a release date of March 2009. While this could be no more than guessing factor into the equation that E3 is coming up in week, a very likely platform for the announcement. Making this rumor a little more believable. The game is apparently going to appear on the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and DS

Not too long from now, at a Media and Business Summit not all that far away, LucasArts may be announcing a new game in the Star Wars Battlefront series. Online shopping megalith Amazon.com has added listings for Star Wars Battlefront III ... for no less than six platforms. The game is available for pre-order and has what we can only imagine is a tentative March 15, 2009 release date.

A new game in the series is hardly surprising; after all, Battlefront is the best selling Star Wars video game franchise of all time. Reports of it being in development also popped up following LucasArts' recent layoffs, though the company would not comment on it or any other unannounced titles at the time.

    Battlefront 3 = epic win on Lucasarts' part.

    Battlefront 3 was awesome. I never had a lot of chances to play BF2 online, but the campaign was awesome. I really hope they expand the backstory for the other factions this time, though. Now just the Republic.

    @Turmoil - BF3 hasn't been released yet @_@

    I only played the demo of BF1 myself...I liked it. I might pick this up for the PS3, providing it turns out good...

    Especially if the scout with the remote controlled floating bots makes a return

    I would *bleep*ing love it if BFIII came out. BFII was awesome on PS2, so on 360 it'll be epic.

      I'd have to say BFII for the Xbox was better though. Slightly better graphics, whatever, i'm not one to promote graphics over gameplay, ever, but the Xbox version, with its edge over the PS2's RAM capability, allowed for 4 player split screen play.

      If the next one is exclusive to the PS3/360, then they don't have to hold back on graphical kick-assedness. If there is a next one. Still haven't heard of a Kotor 3 yet either. Force Unleashed is getting all the attention.

    Didn't they announce that the series was going PSP exclusive, beginning with Renegade Squadron?

      Seeing as how that would considerably reduce their target audience, that would be one of the stupidest moves Lucasarts could pull.

    I didn't think so, that would be a shit move on Lucasart's part. The best selling Star Wars game franchise PSP exclusive? That would suck.

    FYI, Electronic Arts and Pandemic have currently teamed up and are working on a Battlefield styled game centered around Lord of the Rings. That in mind, and with the switch Pandemic has pulled, seemingly withdrawing from Lucasarts favor (and heading directly to EA for project development), I doubt the ol' company is fronting Battlefront III. After Battlefront II's dissapointing 'downgrades' over the much-loved features of the first game, I'd rather see another developer take a shot at it. Rumors a while back were that Free Radical, the guys behind the acclaimed TimeSplitters series (also an EA property, after an acquisition before TS3 was released), would take over.

    Not too sure if that works out though - perhaps HAZE's criticism will throw a wrench in that plan, if it ever was a plan. I'd personally like to see DICE themselves take a shot at it. EA and Lucasarts are connected at the hip, afterall.

    #1 was awesome.

    #2 was even better.

    Will #3 live up the expectations? This is a really big project and they no doubt have been working hard on it, but I hope that it works out.
