Jack Thompson lost case and is to be disbarred

cjmnews | July 09, 2008 | News | Misc
GamePolitics.com is reporting that Jack Thompson, the anti-game lawyer, has apparently lost his court case in Florida and is facing disbarment. The disbarment may be for 10 years or permanent, plus fines as well. This seems like a fitting end to a ridiculous career to me.
The Florida Bar has recommended disbarment for a period of ten (10) years. The undersigned finds no evidence whatsoever to indicate that the Respondent is amenable to rehabilitation, or even remotely appreciates the basis upon which a need or purpose for such rehabilitation is warranted...

If she isn't, everybody else will. That's for damn certain.

Good riddance. Should have happened a long time ago if you ask me. Jack Thompson gives lawyers a bad name.

The headline is misleading. Thompson has not "lost case and is to be disbarred". It is the recommendation of the Referee Judge Tunis that he be disbarred for life. The final decision will come from the Florida Bar. However, I hope the Florida Bar follows the Referee's recommendation.

This isn't accurate, he hasn't been disbarred as SS4Gogeta stated, the final verdict will be late August. This is just saying that they want him to be permanently gone.

If he gets permanently disbarred, there should be a holiday commemorating it lol.

Hmmmm, wouldn't be surprised if some sites did some 'unofficial gamers holiday' celebrating it....Like Wintereenmas, neh?

I'm sure he'll raise a ruckus over this, but at least he'll have less clout.....

Bet Fox news will still bring him in as a 'credible expert' >_>

Brilliant news. He's been completely ignorant in all of his cases, showing absolutely no knowledge whatsoever. A victory for common sense and gaming, I'd say.

Hmm . . . I never really followed what has gone on with Jack Thompson. But from what I did hear some things seemed credible and understandable, while others seemed utterly ridiculous.

But . . . it seems like this will definitely change some things in the gaming community

What he tried to do was noble, but the way he went about doing it and the accusations he made are straight up silly.

    Permaban. How appropriate.

That's exactly how I feel and see it. The way he went about it, was the wrong way.
