The Stoked Gamer goes into dealing with gaming addiction, why it is happening, what you can do to combat it. He references how some players have logged over 600 hours on the leaderboard of one server - which would amount to over 28 full days of gameplay. Maybe it is time we put the controller/keyboard down.
Plain and simple...World of Warcraft players are not the only gamers suffering from addiction. There are many reasons I have stayed away from WoW. Probably the greatest reason is that I don't want to be involved in game that is so demanding and time consuming. Quite a few of my friends have tried to convince me to join their guild, to help them in their quest for gold, exploring dungeons, and defeating monsters. My simple reply: NO THANKS!
When the game skate. by EA was released last September I could not put the controller down. The analog stick used for ollies, nollies, and tricks was an awesome innovation that helped me pass the time for a couple of months. I still head back to San Vanelona every now and again to bomb down some of steep hills and and grind some rails. Fun times.
Then only a couple months later, my gaming life as I knew it changed completely. November 6, 2007 is when my addiction began. It is also the same day Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released in North America. Hmmmm...interesting connection!
Infinity Ward's smash hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a remarkable game. Not only for the exceedingly intense single player campaign, but also for the very customizable and addictive multiplayer. Fetch...did I say addictive? I meant to say it is a nightly ritual for me. I might forget to take out my contacts before going to bed (great way to screw up your eyes by the way), but I never forget to get a few rounds of Team Deathmatch in. It is just that good.
