Microsoft revealed a new part of their 360 OS intergration, a Avatar system. The system is already compatible with some games and every game made by Rare, as well as every game coming out in the future by them. You will be able to customize every part of your Avatar such as hair, arms, hands, etc and they are in full 3D. Avatars will be connected with every user profile and you will even be able to buy different things for your Avatar.

Microsoft announced today a new part of the Microsoft Blade and Xbox OS intergration -- an Avatar system similar to the Nintendo Wii. The system integrates with a variety of games and is also ready for all games by Rare (and in fact were created by Rare for Microsoft.)

Avatars express your persionality -- you can customize hair, clothing and everything else about you. The avatars are fully 3D and are animated in the Blade. This shows up on the user system. You can buy new clothes and other items (including assumedly pay-for-DLC). Avatars are visable right on the frontend and are attached to all user profiles, so your friend list will automatically show the 3D version of your character.

Looks like the Intellisponse leak wasn't just a rumor! I wonder what will happen to Gamerpics. It's a shame you have to buy items for the most customisation, but we all saw that coming. It would be nice if you could unlock items from games as you earn achievements which relate the game (for example, an assault rifle if you've played Halo 3).

Can't wait to see how they integrate with the new Banjo Kazooie.

This article made me fully realize how much E3 will affect GameGrep for the next two weeks.

Everybody is going to be posting new articles to get contribution points now.

That's one of the concepts of GameGrep: to reward users for posting interesting news.

I actually post news because I'm interested in them and am curious if others are.

The avatar system is M$'s response to Home and Mii's I suppose? I'm sure they'll improve on it overtime but for now, it's not on my anticipation list.

I think the avatar customization would be best used if we could use items that come from the save files from the game we've played.

Like, if there's a Halo save file on your hard drive, you can put a Spartan helmet on your avatar. If you have a Splinter Cell or Rainbow Six file, you can give your guy night-vision goggles. If you have a COD4 file, you can put your guy in a ghilie suit, etc.

Good idea, Turmoil, you should work for M$. ^^ I have quite a few games, would love to have some gear from each to deck out on my avatar.

Or have a item for each achievement. That would definitely make them worth getting.

Yeah. If there are those achievements in Gears of War 2 where you need to get a certain nubmer of kills with a certain weapon, you get to make your avatar hold it.

The achievement part you guys are talking about is a good idea. Having a save file for Gears and being able to dress my avatar up in Cog armor is freaking sweet!
