And Here Comes The Final Fantasy XIII Explanation (From Square)

Krunal | July 14, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360 E3 2008
With the recent announcement that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the XBOX360, it seems Square Enix are being bombarded with questions (and the obvious hate mail from Sony PS3 fan{boy's}).

To resolve this situation what are Square Enix doing? They're holding a press conference.

Points to note from the Conference:
  1. No mention of discs the X360 version will take
  2. The Japanese version will be released first, followed by US. EU version will follow EVENTUALLY
  3. Japan will only be getting a PS3 version of the game, no XBOX360 version
  4. XBOX360 version development will start AFTER Japan PS3 version release (during PS3 version Localisation for US/EU)
So, yeah! Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360. And now Square Enix is having a press conference, probably to explain how that went down. FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase is expected to be on hand as is Square Enix exec Shinji Hashimoto. Hit the jump for the liveblog.

I was pissed about this news as it was (I could have just gotten a XBOX360, I have absolutely Near to NO reason to get the PS3 now... but it's a bit too late unfortunately), and this just kicks us loyal fans even more in the arse nuts.

It kicks the people who were like "Oh yeah? Well, we have Final Fantasy XIII, beat THAT" even more in the nuts. Since the PS3 has such an ASTOUNDING game line up at the present time, we have NOTHING to worry about.

Japan is not getting a 360 version at all Square is blatantly in control of this whole ordeal. They're more or less using Microsoft's 360 as a portal to the American audience, while staying true to their roots in Japan. Gaming has seriously turned into a diehard corporative business.

No shit. Can you blame them with as shitty as the 360 is doing in Japan? It also cuts down on development costs, since they only have to make one version in Japan.

From what I can make out the XBOX360 version will be out AFTER the PS3 version. It mentions that first the Japanese version will be released, then the US and EU versions will go to localisation, and during this stage the XBOX360 version will go into development... please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not for us long running fans of the PS3. A lot of us having been waiting on this game for 2 years now and to hear of any further delays is an annoyance within itself, never mind the fact that the game is now multi-platform.

I thought it was simultaneous with the PS3's release for the US/EU versions. :S If it is a 'timed exclusive, that still won't help the PS3, as the 360 will most likely get extras.

Or he can realize the PS3 isn't just going to shrivel up and go die in a corner somewhere, where it will eventually contract a very similar sort of fungus to the what so many of the people here seem to have filling their heads.

Just video games, man. JUST VIDEO GAMES. Bear in mind, this is business, not a little festival of "hey, let's make everyone shit *bleep* happy!" When was the last time everybody won with something game related? Someone has to lose. Just buy the game. Simple as that.

Sony said in the beginning of the PS3 launch that they don't mind exclusive rights if I recall, that they have loyal fans. That's coming back to bite them now if that's the case. GoW3 won't make it to 360, it's Sony-owned.

You do realize that it's 100% up to SE, right? No matter what Sony does, it's Square's decision whether or not they take their franchises to other platforms. Who's to say that SE didn't want a ridiculous sum of money for exclusivity? Really, none of you even bother to think about it and just go out there guns blazing the second something goes "wrong" for you.

You do know that if money exchanged hands, Sony would have both the DLC for GTAIV and FFXIII right? Yet it was Microsoft that exchanged the money both times.

          Fatal Error | July 15, 2008
What the hell are you talking about? Yes, if Sony had decided to spend that money and Microsoft didn't they'd have the content, but I'd say that's not really a point to be made, right? Obviously if things go the opposite direction the DLC would have been different, but that's just common sense. Really, way to point out the obvious. Again, I say that no one has any idea what happens behind the scenes and such so they have nowhere to complain.

My thing is, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, Square hasn't even made shit for PS3. 360 gets 3 RPGs from them AND FFXIII? How does this happen to a Japanese console? Where are PS3's RPGs, period? I can't understand what's going on with SCE. I'm not one of these idiots who's going to sell my system now, but Sony really has to pull a trix rabbit out their ass. They need FFVII and KH3 exclusively, just to stop the bleeding.

I'm willing to bet KH3's exclusivity will depend heavily on how well FF13 does on the 360.

On another note, it's kinda sad/hilarious to see so many getting so mad at Square-Enix for this. I mean, fans would rather see their favorite company lose money and struggle? Because that is the OTHER option. Granted, I would be upset too if I had purchased a PS3 JUST for a game that is no longer exclusive, but hear me out, people... the trend of going multi-platform has been happening for some time. It's the smart thing to do. You can't expect companies to maintain loyalty if it means losing money.

Hey man, I get 100% what your saying, and I agree, people are blowing this way out of proportion, but after thinking about it, can you blame them? Alot of people trusted SE to make FFXIII a PS3 exclusive, and for it to go multi is a slap in the face for them. Granted I still think people are making too much of a big deal out of it since its not like the game is gonna only be for 360 or anything. I also want to note that multi plat games are making it alot harder to get a 360 or a PS3 because alot of games are on both.

We have ONE RPG: Folklore, and that was barely above Average. 360 already has a few spinoff Final Fantasies, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and a few others.

But then again the Nintendo would have been able to offer the same services in which the PS1 could offer them?.. the answer being no this this I guess so no matter what they had to make the move to jump into the bigger market for the potential they could get out of the game.

Either way, it is good that they have done this but I will still to what I said about loyalty to Sony and Sony to them and just for that keep saying they shouldn't have done this because of that factor... and urmm well. The fans also.

You know, it makes me wonder what the Nintendo fanboys reaction would have been like to FF7 if we had internet back in the day.

It isn't like Square has been loyal to anyone from the start guys. They jump ship from one console to another whenever they feel they can make more money else where. I have been a huge Squaresoft fan for a long time. At one point I was literally buying every game with their logo on it even if it was something I wasn't overly interested in.

I even dropped Nintendo for Sony back in the day because of FF7. Like most gamers at the time. And I had never owned anything but a nintendo console at that point. Well, there was a Genesis in the house at one point but it was barely played. Point is it doesn't really matter. This won't kill the PS3. Nor is FF7 "the only good exclusive the system had". You're all being overly dramatic.

people should know by now third parties are going to go to make multiplatform games its just common sense from a business point of view. Guess what FFXIII will probably be better on the ps3 than the 360 cause if you read the article it states that the 360 version will be a port of the ps3 version.

In this day an age the only exclusives are first party ones, ok yes its a blow to us ps3 owners, but before you decide to sell your ps3's for 360s let me remind you of some of the brillant exclusive games released and up and coming for the ps3.

Warhawk, Uncharted, racthet, MGS4 (easily worth £300), resistance FOM and 2, motorstorm2, killzone 2, God of war III, Home (when it finally gets realesed), GT 5, LittleBigPlanet, WipeOut HD, socom confrontation, Pixel Junk eden, Super Stardust HD, Tekken 6 etc etc. And Muther *bleep*ing Blu ray i love that thing.

ok i take my hat of to microsoft on an excellent steal, but ps3 owners lets hear sony out its not the end of the world we got still plenty of exclusives.
