Nintendo has announced they are in testing for various different applications for the wildly popular Nintendo DS. An airport manager, sports ticker and who knows what else is in the works!

Also in testing right now at a ballpark in Seattle, DS users can check scores on games, compete in contests versus other people in the park, watch replays and even order food.

It looks like the DS will become a more useful device then just a game machine, that is a very interesting direction indeed.

To me, this sounds like they're getting ready for quick linking with different services, and maybe some PDA-like software.

I really could care less for this feature. I just want to play a freakin video game. If Nintendo wants to do this, can they just make a new portable console called the " Nintendo PDA"?

I think the Seattle Mariners thing is really cool. If they make all of this available through download play, it would be awesome. But I don't want to buy any of it.

And how much of this was already made possible via homebrew?
