For those of you who have played the old school Golden Axe games, you'll know why Sega has pretty much ruined the game before it's even released. Even if you haven't played the originals you should have some insight into this plight.

It has been determined by Sega that the upcoming title Golden Axe: Beast Rider will not contain multiplayer co-op. The original games were all about the multiplayer co-op action. You and a buddy team up to take on the evil forces of Death Adder. Co-operative play was a staple behind the series. A screen of the original can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Sega's statement on this topic comes down to this:

quote

"Rightly or wrongly, we don't have co-op multiplayer in the game. I think as much as anything it's taking inspiration from the original series but in terms of that multiplayer co-op the developer decided that they didn't want to take the game in that direction.

If Golden Axe: Beast Rider is successful, we can then come back with something else that maybe will have the co-op mode that everyone is wishing this game has."

Joystiq hit the nail on the head with their comment:

quote

"Or, you know, you could give people what they want in the first place instead. Just a thought."

Yeah I'll be avoiding this game, was a blast with Co-Op back in the day, wouldn't be the same without it. Just like Fighting Force, heh, didn't get 2 because it took out Co-Op.

I think I might just avoid this one as well because of the lack of co-op.

Man, that's when co-op WAS co-op. No getting killed by your team mates, no cheating to level up, no beating the shit out of elves and hording the potions to yourse...well mostly it was good co-op. I still play that game from time to time.

Damn - remaking Golden Axe would definitely have serious potential - why would they do such a thing?

Co Op was always so awesome. It was pretty much the only way you could beat I & II.

You can only have co-op if you buy this abomination first.

WHAT THE *bleep*. The greatest thing about the classic games was playing with your friends beating the shit out of the gnomes. Sega, you suck three times as hard now.

That is pretty lame that the main feature isn't there. I mean if the original game had the feature back in ----1989----- give me a break, put it in the 2008 version.

When I first saw this articles title, I was wondering how the could ruin it.Then I thought they only way they would ruin it is to not make it co-op.Sadly I was right.

WHY do so many developers have to ruin new imaginings of old and awesome games?

Why the hell even call it Golden Axe.The biggest damn appeal of the old one was the freaking co-op and they decide to not include it.

Really, this was poor planning. It's like they worked on all the gimmicky stuff while leaving a core element of the game as something they might do if the have the spare time.

As a single player only game, I'm not sure how it competes with some games out there, like the new Ninja Gaiden for example.

They do it with everything it's like the Sega Genesis/Megadrive was not real, Sonic isn't Sonic anymore, Golden Axe is looking poor i mean every corner stone game of that era has been butchered by Sega... I hope they never make a Streets of Rage in the modern day maybe they'll happily forget to plan for the special cop car attacks or hell get rid of 2 player co-op.

Not to mention that Sega has officially stated that they have no plans for Seaman or Shenmue III.

Seriously, Dragoshi? Co-Op was the best part of the Old Games. From my point of view, it's kind of like you're kicking a classic title in the balls.

Plus, this new game revolves around Tyris. So, that means everyone's favorite dwarf Gilius Thunderhead is in the background until a certain point.

Seriously. When this game was at it's prime,I was only 4

I played it years later, and to me,co-op rocked only if both patrons had a beast to ride, otherwise the other guy would get his/her ass kicked

I always played as the girl, anyway FIRE FTW
