New technology will turn London into Europe's biggest WiFi Hotspot. Users will be charged about £11 a month.

It will use a new "mesh" technology to transfer users automatically from base station to base station as they walk by, allowing uninterrupted web use.

Some 130 base stations will be used to cover the area when the system is turned on next week.

    That's actually pretty nice. We are suppose to have something like that set up here [i]eventually[i]. I don't know if I would be willing to pay for it though. ^^;

    I have the advantage of being able to use my campus Wifi free of charge. Granted the 40 or so thousand dollars a year I'm paying to attend the college is more than enough, but still.

    This has been purposed for a few major cities in the States, but I'm not sure about the specifics.

    It's cool but it'll be costly. I would love it if the service was included as a global tax. So everyone would have it and pay for it equally.

      What do they do about users without laptops or cellphones or other net ready devices? Would they have to pay the tax too? Something like this can only work in a case by case basis. Can any UK users enlighten us on this?

    Woah, I wish the US would get something like this, it would be awesome being able to access Wi-Fi like that, I wouldn't mind a small fee. =O
