Announced sometime ago, Sony has finally revealed a release date for it's Playstation 3 Freeview Box. The device, due for release on September 10th (UK only), will function the same way as a standard Freeview box in regards to providing digital TV. However, added features include the ability to record and save programs onto your PS3's hard-drive - including while playing a game - and the ability to stream TV from your PS3 to your PSP via a wireless connection. The service will only be released in the UK, with Amazon speculating the retail price to be around £59.99, which is around the going-rate for advanced Freeview boxes. Sony clearly hope to capitalise on the impending 'Digital UK' government program, which will see analogue TV signals switched off throughout the whole country by 2012.
Sony has announced that its much-hyped Freeview PVR PS3 device will be released in the UK on September 10.
PlayTV will turn the PlayStation 3 console into a fully-functional digital TV device, allowing users to watch Freeview TV and to record it onto the machine's hard drive.
Sony also confirmed it has now added the ability to record TV while playing games, a function that was previously missing from the service.
Online retailer Amazon claims the new device will retail for £59.99, but Sony has yet to announce an official price.
