Nintendo have never heard of Fatal Frame IV ... Even though they're publishing it!

Gothic Girl | July 22, 2008 | News | Wii E3 2008
Fatal Frame IV's Japanese release is just two weeks away, so one would asume that the game will be released in America sometimes at the end of the year.
Well it looks like that might not be the case...
During E3, GoNintendo.com asked Nintendo of America about Fatal Frame IV ... and they hadn't even heard of the game!
Yes, despite Nintendo being the publishers of the game (and despite a trailer being released at E3), not one person in Nintendo's E3 meeting room had a clue what series GoNintendo.com was talking about!

Discuss in the Fatal Frame IV forum
During my interview with Denise Kaigler, I did manage to slip in a few traditional questions. One of my inquiries related to Fatal Frame IV for the Wii. I wanted to know why we didnt hear about it at the conference, and why it wasnt on the show floor, or in Nintendos meeting room. I was a bit surprised to find out that no one during my meeting had even heard of the game. They werent familiar with the title at all. I thought for sure they would know the game I was talking about, considering Nintendo is publishing the title in Japan!

I have no idea what this response means for the future of the series in the states, but I am sure the game will see a launch here at some point.

Nintendo Japan is publishing FF4, not NoA. So, the person interviewed probably has had no dealings with anything FF related. You would hope that people who work for Nintendo would be at least as interested in their products as fans but unfortunately corporate talking heads only know what they get told. So while frustrating and idiotic, this is pretty much standard.

She's the vice president of Marketing and was at E3 when Nintendo America showed the Fatal Frame IV trailer, so for her to not have heard of the game at all is pretty pathetic, even if Nintendo America don't end up publishing FFIV over here.

The reason Nintendo aren't advertising this game is because it looks like waptards (and only waptards) are interested in it.

"Waptards"? I certainly wouldn't consider myself one. I just like horror games and this is a damn good horror series.

      Waptards?

Fatal Frame is one of the greatest horror series ever. If you'd actually play a game from the series, you'd understand that.

And bbb hit the nail right on the head. Nintendo of Japan =/= Nintendo of America.

Fatal Frame (or Project Zero as it's called here) is the only horror game that scared me enough to make me stop playing it lol.

You've never played a Fatal Frame game in your life.. haven't you?

It's quite literally the opposite of "kawaii".

I'd like to know what exactly is "waptard" about the game? Because it has Japanese characters? Because it is set in a Japanese mansion? (disregard the fact that the fourth one isn't).

It's funny that as soon as something remotely Japanese appears on this site, there's at least one person who starts with the "wapanese"/"weaboo" crap. >_>

Where did I say the game was waptarded?

What I said was that from MY experience the only people who care about this game are waptards.

Never played any game in the series, so I couldn't possibly comment on them. The game might be very good for all I now, conversely it might be shit for all I know.

          Bit of a conundrum...

See, you don't know ANYTHING about the game yet with ABSOLUTE certainty you just figured it's for wannabes just because it's Japanese. This is why people should drop the sarcasm, it's bad enough that people try to have an opinion about something they DON'T know but it's worse when they try to be funny about it.

I've only read the first coupla lines of your reply Seeker and I'm going to stop you there.

I am commenting on the people who I've seen to be excited in the game. Not the game.

Might want to read and comprehend my post before replying.

So? You can repeat "In MY experience" how many times you want, matter of the fact is that you still don't know shit about what you're talking about. I mean, in MY experience, I've seen a lot of horror fans excited for the game...and I do believe MY point of view is a bit more believable...because it's a horror game and I've done my bit of research...whereas YOUR point of view is...looking at a couple of screenshots and some comments; ignorance is inevitable.

I've been "looking at a couple of screenshots"? Screenshots of what exactly?

Certainly couldn't have been the game, as I haven't discussed that.

          ...

Where do you see that "only waptards" seem to be interested in the game? The thought of it is exaggerated at best. It's pretty hard to deny that what you did was nothing but taking a cheap shot at a franchise and its fans.

          ^ Incorrect.

I've said several times that I've not played any of the Project Zero games and I won't discuss it until I've at least played one of them.

"Haha, One of the few times I actually had a laugh at your post. Well done, you deserve a thumbs up for this."

Seems kinda douchy the way you put it, and had no real relation to the story.

This is sad....just oh so sad. Even though they're on two different sides of the planet, you'd still expect them to keep some sort of connection about games, since this one's coming out over here too especially.

If it insults them then maybe they are a little over sensitive, its only a game. I am sure the game can handle itself.

That was an insult towards the PEOPLE that play the game, not the game itself...

I think im entitled to laugh at dons post first time on this site and Neo. God you guys are far over sensitive obviously Dons was joking.

Sure, you're entitled to laugh at it. If you think that laughing at somebody else insulting an entire fanbase is funny, then fine, whatever floats your boat. Just stop bitching when you get thumbed down for posting such an idiotic comment.
Maybe you should take a page out of your own book and stop being so oversensitive.

Jeez, I wish so many Fatal Frame articles didn't end in similar arguments >_>

Oh please, GG, you obvious take things far to seriously in this place if people have to get all defensive to Dons post in the first place, and thumbs down anyone who may found the post funny, not necessarily agreeing with it. Thats my point, I found it funny, I wasn't agreeing with it, the way it sounded was funny, not him making fun of a fanbase. You and everyone else getting defensive about his comment just proves his point. I can tell you this the reason why most FF4 articles ends up the way it is, is all the people having to defend something that isn't worth it. Its a joke, get over it.
Im not being oversensitive but curious how Dons gets praised for many gamegrep comments in this place, and yet says one jokes and everyone gets all crazy.

It wasn't idiotic comment, it was me expressing how he made me laugh, jokes comes in many fashions. Maybe people need to develop one.

But please go right ahead and thumb me down, cause it'll just prove a point.

As for the article interesting, but im sure this is getting advertised on SCEJ and not SCEA, as someone already pointed out.
