From Metal Gear Solid's change from the PSX to the PS2 to Bomberman's hideous transformation to the nice but lovable Bomberman from the N64 days to the evil version seen on Bomberman: Act Zero, GamePro counts down the eight worst game character makeovers of all time.

"It's a normal process--video game characters are constantly changing. From Mario to Marcus Fenix, characters always undergo visual facelifts in order to "update" the series' look. The good news is that, more often than not, game character makeovers are subtle and we don't even notice that new mole on the side of Chola the Chipmunk's cheek or whatever other tweak is made to our favorite characters. But good taste is not always used when these changes are made."

The Wind Waker doesn't deserve half the scorn it gets.

As for Solid Snake, this person obviously just dislikes a little bit of mullet.

    I like the mullet

I've never even heard of that Bomberman game, but Evil Bomberman looks cool...

The number 1 choice was a good choice. That is a pretty damn terrible design of Bomberman. The game was pretty horrible as well.

I dislike the franchise, but why is Zelda on that list? Windwaker wasn't terrible looking.

Off topic: One of my words got bleeped out. It's not even a swear word.

The Wind Waker is one of, if not the most artistically beautiful game I've ever seen in my life. Like Cruxis Mana said, it definitely DOESN'T deserve the scorn it gets.

i agree with the sub zero one that was bad

That was a different Sub-Zero, though, the original's brother. The original was said to become Noob Saibot if I remember correctly, and another reason why they 'un-masked' this Sub-Zero was to "humanize" him more. He's a good guy, after all. His Ice Shower kicked ass!

Mullet was the best change. The Link is questionable in my opinion.

8.Solid snake obviously gets old and grows some facial hair. How is that a bad makeover?

7.Epic fail putting this on the list. Toony isn't bad at all,WW was awesome graphically and gameplaywise.

6.WTF!? This was the best makeover on the list! They made her more realistic! epic fail.

5.Don't know that much bout this,so...

    4.dunno

    3.That's not megaman's ;atest look,and I like his newest look,anyway.

2.I actually agree on this one. Crash looks like crap.

1.And I agree with this. That thing doesn't even remotely resemble bomberman.

Completely agree. 1-5 were the only one's that deserved to be on the list.

As for number 8 they were talking about the mullet as opposed to facial hair. Still looks way better IMO.

I'm surprised they didn't put Banjo from Banjo-Kazooie on here, with his make-over from the N64 games to Nuts n' Bolts.

Snake's mullet is awesome, nobody should disagree. I also quite liked how Toon Link looked.

Also, #2 is very true. I never got what was up with giving Crash tatoos.

solid snake is allowed to have a mullet. he is so bad ass that he makes it look cool. although its not exactly the hair style i would pick for him. the whole business in front party in the back thing? are you kidding snake is all business!!!

The Zelda makeover wasn't permanent, and the game killed.

Solid Snake is going to be badass no matter what the hell he looks like, so who gives a shit if he got a totally new hairdo?

Lara Croft is hotter with bigger knockers. OMFG TEH POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS U!!1

Mega Man looks EXACTLY the same. He just isn't wearing his *bleep*ing helmet. Get over it.

Again, Crash looks EXACTLY the same. He might have had a wild night where he didn't know where the tattoo came from, but I see basically no difference in the concept art and the character game model.

I agree with Subzero and Bomberman though. Wtf

A hint to top ten writers: Don't mention your #1 pick when you're reviewing #3. It takes away the surprise.

Snake looks tougher with the mullet and scuff

I think Banjo and Kazooie from that Nuts and Bolts game could be on here. I think the character designers turned them from cute cartoons characters that had a lot of personality to ugly looking animals that they tried to make more "hardcore" looking.

Only bad makeover Snake got was in MGS4. Old Snake means I can't ogle him in good conscience anymore. He had a really tight butt for an old dude, too. *shudder* Can't say I don't still <3 him though.

As for Simon Belmont, I found his new appearance very sexy, but I will agree with the article -- he has an exotic dancer look now. Ayami Kojima is a goddess; too bad Konami only uses her work on and off.

Snake's mullet is awesome. And why the hell did they mention the mullet anyways - That's nothing compared to his rather drastic "makeover" between MGS1 and MGS4. Remember when it was first announced that we would be playing as "Old Snake"? That was a big WTF moment.

Haha, I loved Simon Belmont's new look. But then again, I love Ayami Kojima's artwork. The fur boots are a bit of a worry though.

edit: holy hell, I just realized I said the exact same thing as RabidChinaGirl. Great minds think alike!

Hah, snake was a good look I think. Mullet or not, he's still the awesomest thing since me.

the link tranformation in general was kink of lame. I still think a more realistic look couldn't have done bad.

Lara should have had her breasts the same size. I'll agree with that one.

The Sub Zero was terrible too. He's only ever been cool with a mask. The rest were also shocking.

    8. Snake's mullet is legendary. Simple as that.

    7. I agree with this. Cel-shaded just makes Link look like a little kid. Maybe he is, but I just don't think it looks right

    6. Probably the best change of them all. She looks better than ever

    5. Agree. Sub-Zero looked awesome to begin with, now he looks like someone from The Godfather.

    4. Never played the game, aqnd I think he looks pretty lame in both. Just my opinion.

    3. Oh God. That's wrong on so many levels. The "after" shot just takes away the MEGA

    2. There's not a great deal of difference there, Crash just looks a bit more shaggy these days. Which is undertandable considering what he's been though =\

    1. Hahaha. Is that really Bomberman? I saw a Bomberman game with him on the cover once and laughed it off. Now I'm going to cry it off. Simply ridiculous. He looks more like Iron Man now.
