Is Resident Evil 5 for the Wii Slowly Becoming Reality?

NSX | July 23, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
While the possibility of Resident Evil 5 coming to the Wii has been officially denied by the people of Capcom, a recent press conference hints that the dream may actually become reality.
When we talked to SEGA of America president Simon Jeffery at E3 last week, he showered us with knowledge and know-how. He also threw in a quick mention of a game we hadn't heard anything about — officially, that is — Resident Evil 5 for the Wii. To say that we were surprised to hear it mentioned would be an understatement, despite our non-reaction if front of Mr. Jeffery.

We followed up with a couple folks about the on camera slip of the tongue, starting with Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime.

Discussing our Executive Pop Quiz, in which we asked Nintendo Corporate Affairs VP Denise Kaigler if Resident Evil 5 was getting a Wii version, Mr. Fils-Aime fired back with a "Not yet!" and a laugh that left us more confused than when we started the question.

As far as a Wii port of the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 title, Kramer asked of us "Have you seen Resident Evil 5?" implying that such a port would be almost impossible, adding that he'd not heard any such product was in the works for Nintendo's platform.

    I'd hit it.

If it does happen. They could decrease the graphic quality like they're doing with Dead Rising and it'd be a cinch.

That about sums it up. There is yet to be a Wii port of a 360/PS3 game that isn't majorly edited and downgraded so it can fit on the Wii. Sure, it can be done, but it would barely be the same game. (Alone in the Dark's Wii port is an example of this, and Dead Rising's port will undoubtedly result similarly).
I don't see why the Wii keeps getting these crappy downgraded ports anyways (okay, it's because of money). Just make a new RE game from scratch so that Wii owners can get a good third-party game for once, and not some rehashed edited version of a game from another console.

Why does the Wii just suck at almost everything?

Because Nintendo decided to invest on being practical aside from their unique concept. That I think was a big mistake by Nintendo. If the Wii had HD support and a not so half assed online support, I guarentee, the Wii would have an ultimately commanding lead by now.

RE 5 on the Wii? Not really that interested although I'd have to check out what unique functionality they would integrate.

Nintendo wanted to go with "simplicity" but is that really all that good? With their "simplistic" approach they have pretty much made it impossible to make a good port to their system because of the graphics and the Wii not being able to run the games made for the 360 and PS3. But hey, at least it has first party support, to Nintendo that's all that matters.

I don't play for graphics, I really hope RE5 makes it. I love the series.

Its not just graphics, its basically every feature of the game has to be toned down.
