XBOX Live Paid Service Days Numbered?

NSX | July 23, 2008 | News | XBOX 360
Since the Playstation Network and Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection are free services and the Games for Windows Live are now free of charge, it should be only a matter of time before XBox Live follows suit.
Sure the service is good but how long can Microsoft get away with charging? The news that Games for Windows Live - essentially a PC version of Xbox Live - will now be available for free makes it increasingly difficult for Microsoft to justify charging a subscription to Xbox Live.

I hoenstly don't mind paying for this service. I spend more money on gasoline every week (about $60) than on an annual live fee. It could lead to more Xbox Live users, but meh, I don't see it happening.

I agree i dont mind paying. I mean when i played the PS3 online everyone spoke Korean or Japanese. Well it does save me some money if they do follow the trend.

The word Rumour: Should be added to the title, As there is no official talk at all about it going free, just a guy speculating.
Also he doesn't sound very game educated as saying that making XBL free could be as vital to MS as Halo 4?? Wtf, there is no halo 4.

I hope they dont make it free for the following reasons:
    1. It allows MS to constantly upgrade the service and secure good games for the 360.
    2. It would allow a whorde of "GANGSTA" kids onto XBL who previously could not convince there mum to pay for XBL for them.

We already have enough of those "gangsta" kids as it is, too. Definitely don't want to hear anymore of them. -_-

Rumour's not necessary thanks to the '?'

Well, actually there is going to be a new Halo Game (Not Wars or Chronicles..) and so I guess people assume it's gonna be Halo 4.

I don't really know which side I'm on for this. I would love for it to be free, but at the same time I don't mind paying for it.

It'd be nice but I don't mind it so long as that money is going towards keeping the service healthy.

I'm pretty sure Xbox LIVE is the most active service and it's gotta take a good chunk of money to keep it running as stable as it does.

There was an article a while ago saying that the amount of Xbox Live users has doubled in the last year(from 6 million to 12 million).

I'm not too bothered, if the service is free than that's great but £40 for a whole year isn't that much and it's worth the money.

As long as XBOX Live service doesnt come at the cost of crappy service. I pay for XBOX Live because it's the best online gaming experience on any platform.

I have a better answer: let's make assholes pay more for Live.

If you have ever come into a game lobby screaming the N-word at the top of your lungs, you play $75 dollars a year for XBL.

Yeah I go to Microsoft Developer conferences and they give out prizes like that. Sometimes too easily. I got a lot of them from there, I got another one as a Christmas present from a friend ( >_>), now I won another one from this contest.

I wouldn't mind seeing it free as well. Not that I mind paying for it. It's a reasonable price, but I just don't buy it because I rarely ever used it when I was paying for it.

I would rather spend those $50 on an, oh say, an Xbox Live compatible game than the service.

Please Microsoft, get rid of the fee.
