Square Enix plans to reveal exceptionally big news on August 2nd in terms of the game's future on if there will be a spin off or a remake of the game. It's also been rumored that the original FF7 will be available for purchase off Playstation Network or even XBox Live Arcade, so fans of the series also have that to look forward to.

So you thought that Square Enix turned their back on Sony in favor of the almighty dollar by making FFXIII multi-platform. Well, fans of the Final Fantasy series may have their prayers answered. FFVII might be making a return to the spotlight with either a remake or a spin-off (like that of Crisis Core).

Just an added note. I looked at an article about a minute ago and found out this news.

"We have been an update to the information on the Final Fantasy Info. If there will be a "new" PS3 version of Final Fantasy 7, it "WILL NOT" be a remake. There is likely to be a spin-off or a sequel to this popular game and exclusive to the PS3. I extremely apologise about getting some of your hopes up about the FF7 remake."

    It'll be a spin-off if anything, not a remake.

If FF7 original goes to XBL that would be an epic loss to Sony further.

May I ask why it would be an epic loss? I'm not trying to be hostile, I don't want an argument. I just don't see how it would be so terrible for Sony.

I could definitely see how it'd help Microsoft, but I don't think it would hurt Sony.

I know that a lot of FF fans would cut themselves and threaten suicide, but I dunno about a loss since it was released over a decade ago.

Dude its just a PS1 game, its gonna be like 6 or 10 bucks a download, how the *bleep* is that an "epic" loss!?

Because if I recall, someone here mentioned that after the FF13 debacle that Sony needs to announce a remake officially, or state FF7 on PS3 and PSN, cause think about it, its the same shit everyone has asked for, more CLASSICS. This would undoubtedly make the Classics or PStore compete with XBLA. This would be a loss, believe it or not. Considering the fact of FF7 exclusity as well as its spinoffs. Its the same with any old time xbox game getting listed in the PSN, its going to hurt. Whether you want to believe its epic or big its your choice but I can definitely see this hurting Sony more.
Although StabWound made a point though, FF7 is a Sony exclusive, atm, so it might not be put under the XBLA, then again if Sony continues to not keep games, and classics, exclusive then Sony is going to fall this generation.

It would be a small loss, certainly not an epic one. Most people that own FFVII or really care aren't going to buy a 360 just for an old (albeit good) game. Unlike Shooters and arcade games, RPGs become very dated.

You need to quit being a little bitch there Final Blade. All I ever see you whining about is how sony is screwing you over. Let them release the damn game for 360 and XBL. I realize in the gaming industry everyone wants to make money. But these games are loved by everyone. Just let everyone have the chance to play them.

Missing the point, but think what you like Fatal. Lord you need to stop pestering me. I paid $600 for my machine and want it to be awesome, and so far with the recent losses of exclusives its making it hard to do so.

I am absolutely not missing the point. It wouldn't be an epic loss, which is what you were trying to say.

XBL would be unlikely. Why re-release a game for a platform brand it was never on? You don't see other PS1 games on XBL.

      Storm Jul 24, 08
Castlevania: SotN, Metal Slug (2 or 3 I think?), and Super Puzzle Fighter off the top of my head. XBLA recently got the first Soul Calibur, a game re-released for a platform brand it wasn't on.

Most of those were for arcade as well, so it totally makes sense to see them in the XBL Arcade.

Sony owns exclusivity to Final Fantasy VII in North America and Europe. If it did come to XBL Arcade it would be in Japan only, which is unlikely.

I was just about to reply with this to FinalBlade.

      _____

Even if Sony didn't own the rights to FFVII, I'd be extremely surprised if it was released on the Marketplace and not on the PSN, so it's not as though Sony fans will be missing out on anything.

Me being a PS3 owner, if this were to happen, I would be extremely pissed off, and would be missing out. Cause we've been asking for FF7 for the PS store for months now, and this would absolutely be a massive hit if it comes out for PSN only. But if this doesn't, its going to be a blow, regardless what some may think its true.

I'm not going to be too impressed if that's all SE has up their sleeve. Personally I could live without another FFVII game. The way they've treated the sequel and prequel cemented that in my mind.

I wouldn't mind it being like Kingdom Hearts.

I'd love to run around swinging Cloud's huge sword.

But, I'd prefer it not be like the Final Fantasy 12...
